WASHINGTON, DC: Former congresswoman Liz Cheney declared that if Donald Trump were to win another term, the Republican party may have a 'Putin wing' that might 'take over the West Wing of the White House'.

Following the demise of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, former President Trump refrained from denouncing Russia and instead urged the Kremlin to launch an assault on NATO members, which prompted her comments on CNN

Cheney mentioned, "We have to take seriously the extent to which you’ve now got a Putin-wing of the Republican Party. I believe the issue this election cycle is making sure that the Putin-wing of the Republican Party does not take over the West Wing of the White House."

In stark contrast to President Joe Biden, who placed the responsibility on 'Putin and his thugs', Trump has faced criticism for 'siding with' Russia after failing to name Russian President Vladimir Putin in his statement following Navalny's death.

Vladimir Putin's government is suspected of having murdered 47-year-old Navalny, who was leading the opposition against the Kremlin and being detained in an Arctic prison colony when he was found dead on Friday, February 16.

His corpse was discovered to have bruises on Sunday that were consistent with being restrained while having a seizure, which sparked suspicions that Vladimir Putin had ordered his murder.

President Biden addressed his death stating, "Make no mistake: Putin is responsible for Navalny’s death. Putin is responsible. What has happened to Navalny is yet more proof of Putin’s brutality. Nobody should be fooled."

Trump, on the other hand, posted about his criminal cases and political opponents in his reaction, omitting even to mention Navalny.

"When you think about Donald Trump, for example, pledging retribution, what Vladimir Putin did to Navalny is what retribution looks like in a country where a leader is not subject to the rule of law," Cheney said.

Nikki Haley, too, slammed Trump for what she called his 'bone-chilling' reaction to Navalny's passing.

Internet seems divided on Liz Cheney's comment on Trump

People on the internet had mixed reactions towards Liz Cheney's comment on Donald Trump. On one hand, several Trump supporters trolled Cheney for what she said whereas on the other, some people supported her.

A user wrote on X, "Liz needs professional help" whereas one said, "There will be a paradigm shift if Trump emerges as the president of the United States."

Another person mentioned, "Trumps wants presidential immunity because that's exactly what Putin has" while one added, "The Putin Wing that wants to make America into a dictatorship".

Another user wrote, "Democrats are doing to President Trump exactly what they claim Putin did to Navalny in terms of persecuting a political opponent. This is to distract from how dreadful Joe Biden has been with the border, economy, and foreign wars. No one takes these Dems or Liz Cheney seriously."
