Shelly Duvall's partner Dan Gilroy breaks silence after 2024 Emmys In Memoriam snubs late actress
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Shelley Duvall, best known for her unforgettable role in 'The Shining,' was excluded from the 2024 In Memoriam segment of the 76th Emmy Awards.
However, as tributes were paid to the stars who died this year, Duvall's longtime partner Dan Gilroy finally broke his silence on the matter, according to TMZ.
As per the Los Angeles Times, James Earl Jones, Martin Mull, Ryan O'Neal and Phil Donahue were among the television personalities honored during the In Memoriam segment but Duvall was conspicuously absent.

The beloved actress who died in July at the age of 75, left a lasting mark on the industry, making her exclusion particularly painful for many.
Despite the uproar, Duvall’s longtime partner took a more measured approach. Speaking with TMZ, he revealed that he wasn’t as upset by the Emmy oversight as fans might have expected.
“I’m giving the Emmy producers the benefit of the doubt,” Gilroy explained, adding that these segments are often planned far in advance.
He believed Shelley’s absence could have simply been an unfortunate mistake, rather than a deliberate snub. But for Dan, this omission pales in comparison to what Shelley endured in the final years of her life.
Gilroy and Duvall, met the before filming the 1990 Disney movie 'Mother Goose Rock 'n' Rhyme.' The couple lived together for 35 years but were never married.

The actress, who had been battling diabetes, died peacefully at her home in Texas after years of suffering.
“My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley,” Dan said in a heartfelt statement to The Hollywood Reporter at the time of her death.
To Duvall’s fans, Gilroy reportedly expressed gratitude for their unwavering support and understanding.
While he acknowledged their disappointment over Emmys, he urged them not to get too worked up.
“Life is short,” he said, reminding her fans to focus on the bigger picture. Since Shelley’s death, Dan has been touched by the overwhelming outpouring of love. Fans from around the world have sent calls and letters, offering their best wishes and sharing how much the actress meant to them.
In her later years, the actress faced significant health challenges, both physically and mentally.
In a 2016 interview with Dr Phil, Duvall bravely opened up about her struggles, stating, “I am very sick. I need help.”
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 7, 1949, Shelley was the eldest of four children.
