WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's recent attempt to mock support for Ukraine aid took an embarrassing turn, drawing widespread ridicule and turning into an unlikely fundraiser for pro-Ukraine causes, as per HuffPost.

The controversial Georgia Republican unveiled a 'Make Ukraine Great Again' (MUGA) hat as part of her protest against the recently-approved $61 billion assistance for the embattled nation. However, the stunt quickly fell apart as critics seized on the moment, and a liberal group promptly began selling replica hats to benefit Ukrainian relief efforts.

During a press conference on Wednesday, May 1, Greene displayed the blue and yellow 'MUGA' hat, a play on former President Donald Trump's famous 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA) slogan.

"The uniparty is Make Ukraine Great Again. The uniparty is all about funding every single foreign war. They think this is the business model that needs to be done ... That's not how you build jobs in America," she declared, placing the hat on posters of House Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The stunt quickly drew attention, inspiring the liberal anti-Trump group MeidasTouch to capitalize on the moment as they started offering the limited-edition 'MUGA' caps just one day after her press conference stunt.

"Marjorie Taylor Greene had a meltdown over aid being sent to Ukraine and unveiled a new MUGA hat - an acronym for MAKE UKRAINE GREAT AGAIN," the group advertised on their website.

All funds raised from the hat sales were pledged to two relief organizations operating in Ukraine: United Help Ukraine and World Central Kitchen. Greene's antic was meant to shame Republicans who voted for the Ukraine package, portraying them as part of a "uniparty" with Democrats prioritizing overseas conflicts over domestic needs.

Marjorie Taylor Greene's 'MUGA' stunt part of broader effort to oust Mike Johnson

Greene's 'MUGA' stunt was part of her broader effort to force a vote removing Speaker Johnson from his leadership position over the Ukraine aid package. However, that campaign also appeared to be fizzling out amid scathing criticism from colleagues in both parties, according to Newsweek.

Johnson himself dismissed Greene's maneuver in a NewsNation interview, saying he did not consider her to be "a serious lawmaker" and would not "spend a lot of time thinking about" her push to oust him. GOP's Don Bacon told CNN that "98 percent" of House Republicans viewed Greene's move as "disgusting."

Derrick Van Orden called the attempt to unseat Johnson over Ukraine policy a "junior high school" tactic more befitting "a reality television show." The Democratic leadership trio of Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar issued a joint statement vowing to "aggressively" push back "against MAGA extremism" like Greene's.

Greene's move backfired in more ways than one as a social media user said, "Lmao she's such a child," while another wrote, "Holy sh*t this woman is massively unintelligent."

"Marjorie, you are a literal child, with child's behavior and child's logic. Please leave politics to adults," wrote a third user. Another person stated, "GOP's biggest obstacle to winning elections aren't Democrats but people like Margarita."

A fifth user quipped, "Just goes to show, what may seem GREAT in your head, might just be an epic failure in reality…"  "Kim Jong Un, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Moscow Marge … Putin doesn't attract the best allies," remarked a sixth user.

"She has reached levels of parody that snl and Veep could ever had imagined," a user wrote. Another mentioned, "She's going to be so mad when she starts seeing people actually wearing these caps haha."
