MIAMI, FLORIDA: Two three-year-old twins were discovered lifeless inside a car on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade on Friday morning.
Simultaneously, a woman, purportedly the mother of the children, suffered critical injuries after leaping from a bridge onto train tracks as the police arrived.
According to NBC6 South Florida, officials have not disclosed the identities of the victims, but family members have identified the woman as 42-year-old Shirlene N Alcime, and the children as Milinddjy and Milender.
Additional details about the children and the crime scene have emerged as part of the ongoing investigation.
Woman jumped off the ramp onto the Tri-Rail tracks
Police responded to the crime scene following a report from a passerby in another vehicle, according to MDPD Detective Andre Martin.
Officers were dispatched around 2 am to investigate a medical emergency at I-95 northbound and the Florida Turnpike extension.
Upon arrival, they discovered the twin children deceased in the vehicle. Simultaneously, a woman, identified as the driver of the car with the children in the backseat, was observed jumping off the ramp onto the Tri-Rail tracks.
“That adult female went over the railing to the on-ramp onto the railroad tracks, which is a considerable distance," explained Martin. "The adult female that was located, the action of her going over to the railing, that happened almost as soon as our officers arrived."
The fraternal twins were transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The woman was taken to Aventura Hospital in a critical condition.
Martin mentioned that investigators are currently treating the incident as a possible suicide attempt by the woman. He stated, "Right now our investigators are working to piece this tragic incident together. There are many many questions that they have that they're working to find answers to."
Detectives are conducting an investigation, and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death for the children.

What did the victims' family claim?
The family expressed profound devastation and shock over the tragic incident. Milson Cadet, the father of the twins who resides with the family but is not married to Alcime, revealed that he last saw his children and their mother on Wednesday.
Concerned when his calls went unanswered on Thursday, he contacted the police on Friday morning and was devastated by the news.
Through a translator, Cadet expressed his confusion, stating, "For me, I don't really know what happened. ... I don't know about what happened today, why my kids passed away."
Cadet and his older son affirmed that the twins had no known health conditions. The family's neighbor translated Cadet's sentiment, saying, "He said he's not going to feel okay now."
Alcime, who owns businesses in the area, has faced several eviction cases in the last two years, with one still pending against a business location.
While the case against their family home is settled, it remains unclear if these legal matters played a role in the tragic events.
Neighbors expressed shock, with one woman describing Alcime as "a very, very good neighbor, [a] good person who helped everybody" as per NBC6 South Florida.
