LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Senegalese-American singer Akon has ignited a firestorm of criticism for his recent comments regarding hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who is facing multiple lawsuits alleging sexual assault and sex trafficking.
In an airport encounter with TMZ on Friday, April 5, at LAX, Akon urged people to "pray for the man" and even suggested that "God is dealing with it," sparking outrage across social media.
Akon urges prayers for Diddy
"I would like to say just pray for the man. God knows best, whatever's happening, God's dealing with it and that's the best thing to say. But it is very unfortunate that things in this business are always being exposed in some ways and I think things could be done differently. But I think this is a matter for God and he's continue to deal with it how he's been dealing with it," remarked Akon.
In his comments to TMZ, Akon also suggested that 2024 "is the year of truth," implying that secrets and wrongdoings will be exposed. "Everyone's gonna have to answer for what we do on this earth. We all have issues, problems, skeletons, and then we also have rewards and achievements and everything of that nature," Akon continued.
Diddy is facing a growing number of civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault and sex trafficking. The allegations span over three decades and involve multiple victims.
One of the most recent lawsuits was filed by Grace O'Marcaigh, a woman who claims to have audio recordings of Diddy's son, King Combs, attempting to touch her during a 2022 yacht party chartered by Diddy. O'Marcaigh, who was a steward at the party, accuses Diddy of aiding and abetting his son in the alleged assault, according to Complex.
In addition to the civil cases, Diddy's homes in Los Angeles and Miami were raided by federal investigators from the Department of Homeland Security last week. While the exact nature of the investigation remains unclear, it has fueled speculation about potential criminal charges against the music producer, as per The Guardian.
