CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: In a move that brought both nostalgia and humor to the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Stephen Colbert reprised his alter ego, Donny Franks, a character first introduced on his 'Late Show' in 2016.

The 60-year-old comedian took to the convention floor on Sunday, August 18, just a day before the official kickoff of the DNC, donning the iconic disguise of a quirky hot dog vendor, as reported by New York Post.

Dressed in a shaggy brown wig, a scruffy fake goatee, sunglasses, and a hat, Colbert's transformation into Donny Franks was as entertaining as it was unexpected.

He mingled with attendees, handing out hotdogs and drinks, much to the amusement of those present, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was seen enjoying the character's signature treat.

The DNC, often a platform for serious political discourse, witnessed a lighter moment when Colbert, as Donny Franks, approached AOC. The 34-year-old Congresswoman, dressed in a pink dress, was seen enjoying her hotdog while sharing a laugh with Colbert.

This unexpected interaction quickly became a highlight of the day, with many attendees and onlookers appreciating the moment of levity amidst the politically charged atmosphere.

In addition to serving hotdogs, Colbert made a subtle yet pointed statement with his attire. He sported a shirt that read, "Do Dougs, Not Drugs," in a show of support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff.

The comedian also donned another shirt referencing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, emblazoned with the slogan, "Ballz to the Walz," adding another layer of humor to his appearance.

This isn’t the first time Colbert has brought Donny Franks to life. The character made its debut in a 2016 'Late Show' sketch, where Colbert, undercover as Donny, sold hotdogs at a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

The sketch was a hit, with Colbert delivering memorable lines like, "All I got is hot dog. Literally. It’s all I have in my life. I’ve driven away everyone who loved me."

The character’s return at the DNC not only brought back memories for fans but also demonstrated Colbert’s continued ability to blend humor with current events.

Colbert’s Donny Franks appearance at the DNC sparked a wave of trolling reactions online.
