LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dakota Johnson has expressed her gratitude toward her family, especially her mother Melanie Griffith, who gave her the freedom to “discover" her sexuality.

In an interview with Bustle, the 34-year-old actress shared, “I was lucky that I grew up with a mom who was very open — at times maybe too open — about sexuality, but it was always like, whatever you’re into and when you want to have sex, you just let me know and we’ll get birth control.”

Dakota Johnson says sexual freedom was ‘such a gift’

She further explained, “It was really healthy, and it made me feel like I was allowed to discover my sexuality on my own, which I think is such a gift. We’ve progressed so much in some societies, for people to be allowed to say that they feel neither here nor there in terms of gender. That’s an incredible thing. It’s such a leap forward.”

Dakota then went on to slam conservative US states and the world as she noted, “And then there’s Alabama, and Texas, and the rest of the f**king world that is in complete disarray.”

Dakota Johnson says the stigma around mental health is ‘hard’

The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ star also addressed her depression and anxiety issues as she mentioned, “I’ve started to be less and less ashamed of it.”

She asserted, “There’s such a weird stigma on depression and mental health. It’s hard.”

The daughter of Don Johnson also revealed that she does meditation. She told the publication, “I do TM [Transcendental Meditation]. It is very easy on your nervous system and it just regulates your brain waves. They say that 20 minutes of TM can be like a two-hour nap.”

Dakota Johnson says working on ‘Madame Web’ was ‘definitely an experience’

Elsewhere in the interview, Dakota talked about her movie, ‘Madame Web’, which did not do well and received bad reviews.

She said, “Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they’re not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullsh*t.”

“Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren’t going to f**king want to see those. But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world,” Dakota added.
