NEWFIELDS, NEW HAMPSHIRE: New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has urged Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie to drop out of the race.

Sununu, who endorsed Nikki Haley for the 2024 presidential election in December 2023, made his statement in a conversation with CNN's 'State of the Union' with Dana Bash on Sunday, December 31.

Claiming the former New Jersey Governor has "hit a ceiling," the New Hampshire Governor stated, "I think he's going to make the right decision eventually and ensure that this is a two-person race." He added Christie "probably won't even get any delegates in the state of New Hampshire if the race were today."

He also argued that Christie's staying in the race could affect Haley's Chances of defeating Donald Trump. "There's no doubt that if Christie stays in the race, the risk is that he takes her margin of the win."

According to FiveThrityEight's opinion poll analyses, Christie is trailing in fifth place among his GOP presidential contenders.

Chris Sununu says Chris Christie's presidential race is a 'one-man show'

Sununu standing firm on endorsing Haley through all means as she is in a neck-to-neck competition with rival candidate Ron DeSantis for the second position in the opinion polls, claimed that it is a two-person race at the end of the day.

"It's between Trump and Nikki Haley," the New Hampshire Governor said, adding people are "really engaging with Nikki on where America goes, on what is about the future."

He ridiculed Christie, asserting that only former President Trump wanted him to stay in the race and that speaking against Trump would have no positive impact on his vote share.

"Chris is only talking about Trump. That's it. He's kind of a one man show. And I know he says he wants to stay in the race to speak the truth about Trump, but that translating to votes in a primary is a very different thing."

Internet does not want Chris Christie to drop out

Netizens reacted fiercely to Sununu's demand, saying he should ask DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy to drop out of the race instead.

Social media reactions highlighted Christie's robust criticism of Haley's recent Civil War controversy, where she omitted slavery as a cause, and Sununu is threatened by the White House hopeful's outspoken nature.

One user said, "Tell DeSantis and Vivek to drop out instead."

Another user stated, "Disagree!!!!!!!! @ChrisChristie should remain in the race!"

"No, i don’t agree because I think the only reason he wants Chris Christie to drop out is because he’s the most outspoken one telling it like it is," said a user.

One user remarked, "Christie made a major blow to Haley this week after her racist ramblings about the civil war. So no. He’s the only candidate that’s palatable on the Republican side."

"Why isn’t he asking for Desantis to drop out too? He’s taking a lot more Support away from her then Christie," one user questioned.

Another one shared a similar opinion, "No. I think Chris Christie should stay in the race and Ron DeSantis should drop out."

"No. Christie should not drop out," read one reaction. Another user added, "I say, let Christie keep talking on the national stage."
