Teri Hatcher reveals why she couldn’t focus on her Bond girl role in ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Teri Hatcher was the much-envied Bond girl in ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ but unfortunately, she didn't have much fun while shooting for the movie. Recently, Hatcher revealed to fans the reason behind this.
'Tomorrow Never Dies' was released in 1997 and it starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
Teri Hatcher says ‘being a mother' was at the forefront of her mind during shooting
Teri Hatcher said, “I’ve been lucky enough to end up involved in some things that have iconic quotation marks around them: Lois Lane, Seinfeld’s girlfriend, a Bond girl. I do step back with a lot of gratitude.”
She further shared, “‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ was a very small role, perfect as I was secretly nine weeks pregnant. It was only two weeks, a couple of scenes, then I’d be too pregnant to keep working."
“But the pregnancy got leaked and it was out of my control. I don’t think you’d get away with that anymore. Women’s rights are much stronger. You’re allowed to have privacy. Women are sensitive before their first trimester because you’re still wondering if it’s all going work out.”
“I wanted to be in the movie, but being a mother was at the forefront of my mind, whereas the forefront of somebody else’s mind might have been: “Oh, I’m in this James Bond movie. That’s so cool'," the ‘Tango and Cash’ star told The Guardian.
Teri Hatcher prioritizes motherhood over everything
Teri Hatcher gave birth to a daughter named Emerson Tenney in November 1997. She shares Emerson with her ex-husband and actor Jon Tenney.
In 2006, Hatcher revealed, as per PEOPLE, “I’ve always made mothering the priority of my life. Over my career, over everything.”
She also stated that despite her and Jon’s divorce that happened in 2003, she “never wanted Emerson to have parents in different households, and I’ll always feel guilty forever that she has to go back and forth.”
“But her dad and I work really hard to make it as easy as possible for her, and I genuinely think she's OK,” the 59-year-old asserted.
“My daughter’s old enough now that it’s easier, more guilt-free [to have a social life], but there have been some lonely nights. I wouldn’t change that," Hatcher added.
Teri Hatcher shares ‘great relationship’ with daughter
Teri Hatcher and her daughter Emerson Tenney share a great bond and in 2018, both of them ran the New York City marathon on behalf of the Save the Children charity.
About the feat, Hatcher reportedly said, “We have a really close great relationship, but I think that she would say, and I agree with this, that this is different than just going on a trip or spending time together.”
“Something about the ups and downs of training for such a physical feat as a marathon — that sort of vulnerability, the adversity that you have to get through and pushing through walls together — and having that experience as a team; it’s just a bonding thing that you can’t really replace or have from any other experience. And I think we both wanted that together," she added.
