Internet shocked as DaniLeigh sentenced to 5 years of probation for her DUI hit-and-run incident in Miami
MIAMI, FLORIDA: Singer and influencer DaniLeigh has received what many online are calling an extremely lenient sentence after being arrested last year for a DUI hit-and-run that left one person seriously injured.
The 27-year-old, whose real name is Danielle Leigh Curiel, was sentenced on February 1 to 5 years of probation and no jail time for the incident that occurred on May 30, 2023, in Miami Beach.
She had faced three felony charges - leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, DUI, and injuring a person while driving under the influence, as reported by The Daily Mail.

DaniLeigh's blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit
According to police reports, DaniLeigh had been speeding and swerving her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol early that morning. She then struck a man on a moped before attempting to flee the scene.
When officers caught up to DaniLeigh shortly after and administered a breathalyzer test, her blood alcohol content registered at 0.148 - nearly twice the legal limit. It is unknown if the court imposed any other conditions above the probation. DaniLeigh did have to post $9,500 bail after being taken into custody last May.
The victim, suffering non-life-threatening injuries, including a kidney laceration and a spinal fracture, was transported to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. DaniLeigh's 5-year probation term will end on January 31, 2029.
DaniLeigh was charged with two counts of simple assault in November 2021
While DaniLeigh managed to escape jail time in this case, it is not her first brush with the law. In November 2021, the singer was charged with two counts of simple assault against her ex-boyfriend and father of her child, rapper DaBaby.
Police had been called to DaBaby's North Carolina home on two separate occasions due to domestic disputes between the former couple. DaBaby claimed DaniLeigh assaulted him while DaniLeigh accused him of trying to kick her and their infant daughter out of the house.

The online community swiftly criticized the perceived leniency of DaniLeigh's sentence, with individuals expressing their opinions on social media. One X user pointedly remarked, "If it was a regular citizen, they would’ve gotten 5 years in jail."

The scrutiny extended to the reputation of Florida's criminal justice system, as another user commented, "I thought Florida was tough on crime?" Another participant in the online discourse highlighted the gravity of DaniLeigh's actions, stating, "Bad decision to drink and drive."
Meanwhile, someone else weighed in on the role of legal representation for celebrities, asserting, "High-end lawyers never fail to keep celebs from prison." The theme of privilege emerged in the reactions, with a user emphasizing, "Pretty/celeb privilege at its finest."
The sentiment of disbelief and dissatisfaction was encapsulated succinctly by a user who exclaimed, "That’s it???"
