'The View' hosts aren't pleased after Oprah Winfrey 'avoided' show during 'Color Purple' promotion
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The View’ co-hosts are reportedly feeling affronted after Oprah Winfrey did not appear at the recent promotional stop for ‘The Color Purple’.
According to sources, Winfrey, 69, was initially scheduled to visit the talk show earlier this month along with the cast members of the latest adaptation of Alice Walker’s 1982 novel of the same name.
While several stars of the film were present during the December 13 episode of ‘The View’ - including Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P Henson, and Danielle Brooks - Winfrey gave it a miss.
One ABC official with knowledge on the matter told Page Six on Thursday, “The View is pissed that Oprah avoided The View.”
Even though Winfrey missed appearing in ‘The View’, she has visited several other talk shows - including Gayle King’s 'CBS Mornings', 'The Drew Barrymore Show', and Sherri Shepherd’s 'Sherri' - to promote the film that is set to hit the theaters on Christmas.

Why did Oprah Winfrey not appear on ‘The View’?
While it has been alleged that Winfrey’s missing the episode left the co-hosts displeased, another insider revealed the veteran talk show host wasn’t available for filming during Thanksgiving.
The insider said the December 13 episode was “taped on November 27 when [Winfrey] wasn’t available.”
She, however, made up for her absence by filming a special promo for the show’s ‘Special Things’ section.
Winfrey’s spokesperson said in another statement to the outlet, “As one of the producers, there have been appearances Ms. Winfrey did not participate in with the cast and was unable to be in New York when this segment was filmed right after Thanksgiving.”

Her representative added, however, “She is overjoyed to see the cast have their moment.”
An insider shared Goldberg “had an incredible moment with the cast during the segment.” They continued, “Everyone was thrilled with what aired… It was a very emotional day for Whoopi. It was a wonderful moment.”
‘The View’ co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who shared the screen with Winfrey for the original 1985 adaptation, also has a small appearance in 2023's ‘The Color Purple’."
Oprah Winfrey opens up about weight loss
Winfrey, who has been busy promoting the film 'The Color Purple', also appeared in People Magazine's cover story where she opened up about her weight loss journey.
Winfrey opened up saying, "I realized I’d been blaming myself all these years for being overweight, and I have a predisposition that no amount of willpower is going to control," and added, "Obesity is a disease. It’s not about willpower — it's about the brain."
She shared that she then "released my own shame about it" before consulting her doctor who prescribed her a weight-loss medication. Though she did not name the drug, she said, "I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing."
Winfrey continued, "The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself."
