NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During a recent discussion on 'The View', co-host Joy Behar delivered a history lesson on the very name of the United States of America.

As 'The View' panel debated the White House banning an Associated Press reporter from the Oval Office, the conversation took an unexpected turn when the panel weighed in on Donald Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Joy Behar questions America’s name

While some saw it as a trivial matter, others, like Joy Behar, had bigger concerns—like the fact that America itself is named after "a White man," as Daily Mail reports suggest.

Behar, never one to hold back, questioned the historical irony of it all.

"This country that we're in was settled by indigenous people, right? And yet they named the country after an Italian White man, Amerigo Vespucci," she stated.

"That's what America is named after, Amerigo Vespucci, a White European. Why was it named after a White man if it was settled by indigenous people?" she questioned.

Co-host Sara Haines chimed in with a more neutral take, pointing out that renaming bodies of water is actually a common practice.

"The body of water south of China, which much of the world calls the South China Sea, China calls it South Sea, Vietnam calls it Eastern Sea and the Philippines has designated parts of it the West Philippines Sea," she explained.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, the panel’s resident Republican, was surprisingly unbothered by Trump’s rebranding efforts.

"It is North America. Mexico and the United States are part of the Americas. It would be petty if he called it the Gulf of the United States," she reasoned.

But Behar wasn’t done. "But why does he care about it when the prices are going up on the eggs?" she shot back and added, "People did not vote to rename the Gulf of Mexico."

Viewers slam Joy Behar's 'TDS'

Not everyone had the same view as Joy Behar, as she faced backlash from viewers who took to Daily Mail article's comment section to slam the co-host, questioning the show’s relevance and expressing frustration over her ongoing remarks

One viewer said, "All they have is crying about the price of eggs while it has nothing to do with Trump."

Another viewer said, "How does this show still have viewers?"

One viewer noted, "Isn’t it time for Joy to be put out to pasture? Her TDS is getting really old and everyone is sick of it."

A follower observed, "Does anyone actually watch that slop?"

One comment read, "Dear Joy, Find a country you do like."

Another comment read, "Joy Behar is probably one of the worst people in broadcast today."

"She hates America but sure does love the freedoms and benefits of living here," explained one person

Joy Behar also picks on Donald Trump's order to stop producing new pennies

Joy Behar’s criticism of Donald Trump didn’t stop at the Gulf of Mexico renaming.

She also took aim at his reported plan to abolish the penny, offering up a rather unique theory for his motivation.

"Trump has loyalty to no one, look what he did to his first Vice President," she said.

She continued, "I mean it's really - and he's jealous of everyone. Now he's getting rid of the penny, he's even jealous of Lincoln. He's so small and petty."

"For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

"This is so wasteful! I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let's rip the waste out of our great nation's budget, even if it's a penny at a time," he stated.

Joy Behar mocks Elon Musk’s son’s name

If renaming bodies of water and phasing out small change weren’t enough controversy, Joy Behar mocked Elon Musk’s four-year-old son, X Æ A-Xii, after his appearance at the White House.

Whoopi Goldberg initially introduced the topic, saying, "Yesterday Elon Musk took his son X to a press conference."

Goldberg added, shaking her head, "I did not name the child, and I don't want to hear anymore mess about our names."

She then said, "Any who, he took little X," as Behar interrupted adding, "And little Instagram."

While the joke was meant to poke fun at Musk’s social media empire, it backfired when Behar had to be reminded that Musk doesn’t actually own Instagram—that belongs to Meta.
