OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN: Amid strenuous negotiations by a bipartisan group of senators aiming for significant revisions to the nation's asylum and border security laws, GOP Senator Ron Johnson has announced that he is leading an effort to obstruct the bipartisan border security and immigration deal.

During a conversation with Fox News' Laura Ingraham on 'The Ingraham Angle,' the Wisconsin Senator declared his position when Ingraham voiced concerns about the ongoing deal, asking if her apprehensions were unfounded.

Johnson stated that her concerns are correct, "That's why I've been pretty well leading the effort to slow this process down. I've got 14 of my colleagues to sign a letter to Republican leadership to hold a conference meeting when we return on January 8th."

Recently in the spotlight for his inability to provide evidence for claims of Democrats using fake electors on live TV, Johnson, along with 14 other Republican Senators, issued a letter on December 17, urging a GOP conference meeting to address negotiations with President Biden and Senate Democrats concerning border security, according to the press release.

Ron Johnson blames Dems for open border policy

Johnson criticized the Senate, which Democrats marginally control, for attempting to rush them into "taking a vote on a bill that nobody's seen" this week. Senators had to postpone their holiday departure and return to discuss the border deal, as reported by Reuters.

Johnson added, "There are only a couple of people negotiating this thing. And so I think we were largely successful. They recessed the Senate that did not take a vote on the supplemental or any kind of board security measure. But no, you're exactly right."

"The problem we have is, we're negotiating with an administration and Democrats in the Senate who want an open border," he concluded.

Border security and the escalating influx of undocumented migrants crossing into the US through its southern border have been key focal points in the arguments presented by GOP presidential candidates, particularly Donald Trump.

The former President even declared he would be a dictator for a day if elected in 2024 to put an end to the border crisis once and for all.

Ahead of the state caucuses and primaries for nominating the party candidates for the 2024 presidential race, the Republicans have launched an attack against Biden's administration's border policy.

For instance, Rep Matt Gaetz recently gave an ultimatum to warn of a government shutdown if the borders are not closed.

Similarly, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed Biden was “guilty of treason" for “border invasion" and, on another occasion, she claimed that the administration “will not secure our border.”

Internet reacts to Ron Johnson's opposition to border deal

Netizens are calling out the Wisconsin Senator for his hypocrisy over the border deal that the Republicans have been demanding forever.

Many suggested that the GOP is not looking for a "solution" and instead wants the issue to present as a "talking point."

One user remarked, "Damn hypocrites. Every one of them!!!"

Another user said, "The border is the #1 propaganda issue for Republicans and they don't want to solve it."

A user called out the irony in the Senator's statement, saying, "Obstructing a deal on border security is wanting an open border."

"They need the issue, not the solution," read one reaction. While another pointed out "Sooooo, they're not serious at all about the border."

A user also noted, "Complain and shine but block any attempt to address the issue because they need something to campaign on."

"They DON'T WANT TO FIX IT because they lose the talking points," stated one user.
