TikToker Dean Withers’ video of MAGA voter learning the definition of inflation in real time goes viral

WASHINGTON, DC: Political activist and TikToker Dean Withers is no stranger to going viral, thanks to his debates with staunch supporters of President Donald Trump over political and economic aspects of modern American society.
The young influencer, who is known as @itsdeaann on TikTok and 'Dean Withers' on YouTube, engaged in a heated discussion with a MAGA supporter while attempting to explain the term “inflation.”

However, as the video, which has since gone viral, progressed, the conservative supporter lashed out after being schooled on the definition of the term “inflation.”
Dean Withers and MAGA supporter's on-air altercation over ‘inflation’
During the video, Dean Withers and the Trump supporter drew daggers at each other as their conversation about inflation spiralled out of control.
In the TikTok clip, the Republican supporter started by asking Withers, "Is the only reason that prices go up is due to inflation, is that the only reason that prices will go up, yes or no?"

"Inflation is defined as prices going up," Withers replied, as the person repeated, "But I'm asking you, is that the only reason? I know what the inflation definition is — is that the only reason?"
As reported by BuzzFeed, Withers explained, "It's not that it's due to inflation, it's that it is inflation.”
"Lord have mercy, I know, I get it," continued the person, seemingly frustrated, before adding, "Is that the only reason that prices of gas and groceries will go up? Is it because of inflation?"
Following his question, the TikToker continued, "Wait, wait, wait, I want you to define the term inflation.”

As the duo continued to argue, Withers’ guest replied, "It's the general level of prices for goods and services rises, reducing the purchasing power of money over time.”
Seemingly satisfied, Withers replied, "Thank you!!" before noting obliquely, "So you just defined inflation as rising prices. Bingo.”
However, the man replied, "I don't think you're getting this,” when Withers yelled, "NO, I DON'T THINK YOU'RE GETTING THIS!!"
He continued, "You just said, 'Is the only reason for rising prices, rising prices?' Do you get that??”

While the interaction has since gone viral, one of the short clips showcasing the exchange has garnered millions of views, with 1.7 million likes, and more than 23k comments.
Social media users express their opinion on heated exchange about inflation
The Internet was left flabbergasted with the heated exchange between Dean Withers and the MAGA supporters as they joked about the "struggle" to understand it.
Someone took to TikTok to quip on the now-viral statement, asking, “Is death the only reason for dying?"
Another social media user chimed in, "I understand how trump got elected now."
"Is bleeding the only way somebody loses blood?" joked another, as someone else asked, "Is the lack of water the only cause of dehydration?"
"I struggle to understand how he struggles to understand it," declared another social media user.
Another user quizzed, "Do prices go up because prices go up?"
Meanwhile, someone else added sarcastically, "Is birth the only reason for being born?"
"This is a perfect example of what happens when a word gets used strictly as a buzzword to create fear and anger," another user commented.
However, a few also explained that, "Inflation isn't a "reason". it's an "effect"."
"Inflation is not THE REASON prices go up, it’s the event itself, across the market. There are multiple reasons for inflation," added someone else.
Another shared, "I cant stand MAGA, but as an Econ prof, not all rising prices are considered inflation. Inflation needs to be general & sustained over time. Changes, like price gauging, aren’t considered inflation."
