WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Tim Scott found himself in hot water after he refused to address former President Donald Trump's false claims that he narrowly escaped death during the FBI's raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022.

The South Carolina Republican, who is rumored to be a top contender for Trump's vice presidential pick, repeatedly dodged questions about the former president's inflammatory remarks during an appearance on CNN on Sunday, May 26, per POLITICO.

Tim Scott repeatedly dodges questions about Donald Trump's remarks on FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid

During the interview, Trump’s assertion that the FBI was "locked & loaded and ready to take me out" during their search of Mar-a-Lago for missing classified documents, was brought up by host Dana Bash. Trump's comments have already been debunked by the Department of Justice and criticized by Democrats.

When asked to address Trump’s incendiary language, Scott instead commented on the perceived disparity in how the FBI conducted searches on President Joe Biden and Trump.

"I saw the video of the SWAT team from the FBI raiding Mar-a-Lago. I have not seen the same video of them raiding Joe Biden’s garage, so I’d love to have that comparison," Scott remarked.

"But more importantly, once again, we find ourselves reinforcing this two-tiered justice system — where we see a different standard for Republicans and specifically a different standard for Donald Trump," he added.

Attorney General Merrick Garland had earlier condemned Trump’s statements, labeling them as "extremely dangerous" and clarifying that the FBI’s actions were standard procedure.

Despite Bash pressing Scott for a clear response, he continued to sidestep. When she highlighted former Trump adviser Steve Bannon's characterization of the raid as an "assassination attempt", Scott turned to criticize the justice system’s handling of Biden, claiming he was being shielded due to his age and cognitive state.

"Watching the treatment of Joe Biden by the justice system, when they have found him unable to stand before a jury of his peers because he’s too old, frankly, and his memory is shot, that is not the kind of simple, fair justice system that Americans expect," Scott expressed.

Scott further argued that the justice system is unfairly lenient towards Democrats, implying preferential treatment for Biden and his family.

He stressed the need for impartiality in the justice system, emphasizing, "We all want fairness without any question, especially when Lady Justice should wear a blindfold. But we don’t see that playing out, Dana."

Tim Scott's unwillingness to address Donald Trump's inflammatory claims spark mockery

Scott's unwillingness to directly address Trump's inflammatory claims prompted a torrent of criticism and mockery on social media.

One Facebook user commented, "That’s all he does is dodge questions. Never seen him answer one directly, even when given multiple chances."

Another remarked, "How he got elected is mind-bending. Why would anyone vote for a guy who cannot answer a direct question."

"He's a true sycophant and will always toe the MAGA line," one person wrote, while another described Scott's behavior as "Pandering to the limit."

A fifth user bluntly stated, "That's because Tim Scott is a bootlicker," and a sixth pointed out, "Trump wasn't even there, so Scott's unwillingness to accept reality is disturbing to say the least."

A seventh user mentioned, "Scott is an embarrassment to himself," while another stated, "Anyone who believes Trump's claims of an assassination scenario is severely intellectually challenged, to put it politely."
