Tim Walz lists three mistakes Democrats made that led to their defeat in 2024 election

WASHINGTON, DC: Former Democratic vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz shared three reasons he believed to be instrumental in the electoral defeat of 2024 Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and himself against the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance, the Independent reported on Friday, April 11.
According to Walz, Harris' White House bid failed because the Democrats failed to reach out to Latino voters, acknowledge the anger among progressives about Israel's assault on Gaza, and have a media strategy that sufficiently incorporated new media.
Tim Walz admits drawbacks in 2024 Democratic campaign
Following his appearance at a People's Town Hall event in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, April 7, Tim Walz spoke with The Washington Post, where he reportedly admitted, "People ran what they had in the moment, what they thought was best, but I do think it’s irresponsible to not look back and say, ‘OK, what could we do to win?’"

"It’s not enough to blame something else," he said of the electoral defeat. "I don’t blame the voters. I blame: What did we not do? I put my suggestions out there. If those aren’t the ones that are chosen, I work as hard as I can for the ones that were.”
Reflecting on how he and Harris failed to get the support of Latino voters, which former president Joe Biden had received in 2020, Walz noted, "I think especially with the Latino community and an immigrant community, these are driven people to succeed, and that is the American Dream. And I think sometimes we’re a little bit, we’re a little bit too much, you know, you should be ashamed for being successful.”
As for public outcry against the devastation being wrought on Gaza, Walz said, "It needs to be spoken that there’s the angst over Gaza and things that needed to be addressed. I think we have to understand: How do we articulate that we’re better for that? It’s obviously self-evident now that for folks in Gaza, Donald Trump’s not going to be the (one) to help them. We got to make sure that they believe that we would have been.”

He went on to admit that Trump was smarter in realizing the importance of new media such as podcasts and taking the advice of his son Barron to appear on shows hosted by the likes of Joe Rogan and Theo Von, which helped to better get his message across to younger generations.
Tim Walz slams Donald Trump
Tim Walz called out Donald Trump for creating a disingenuous public perception, saying, "Trump doesn’t know squat about football, but he shows up at football games. He doesn’t know squat about NASCAR, but he shows up at NASCAR. We do know those things, and we should be out there."

“I’m not saying it’s me – send Cory Booker out to do these things. Send Elizabeth Warren; she knows basketball… We should do more of the spaces where they’re at authentically, not performance-like," he added.
Speaking of protests that have erupted across the country over the functioning of the Trump administration within the first three months, Walz noted, "Donald Trump did a wonderful job of articulating why these people are angry. He’s done nothing to improve that, and they don’t believe we have either. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”
