Timothee Chalamet faces backlash after Knicks game appearance and Oscars discussion
Earlier in March, Kylie Jenner showed support for Timothee Chalamet at the Oscars following his snub in the best actor category for 'Marty Supreme,' a film based on the life of a 1950s New York underground ping-pong player. Despite early predictions that he would win, his public image reportedly faced additional scrutiny after remarks that sparked backlash around opera and ballet.
Chalamet made the comment while speaking to Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey about his hopes for the survival of movie theatres. During the conversation, he said, "I don't want to be working in ballet or opera or, you know, things where it's like: "Hey, keep this thing alive," even though no one cares about this anymore," in an interview for Variety's 'Actors on Actors.'
The remarks did not go unnoticed at the Oscars, with host Conan O'Brien referencing the controversy during his opening monologue, "Security is extremely tight tonight. I'm just going to mention that." Reports also pointed to a growing “Stop Timmy” sentiment circulating online ahead of the ceremony.
At the same time, Kylie Jenner’s personal history also drew attention at the game. Her former best friend Jordyn Woods was present courtside, arriving in a black bustier, jeans, and leather jacket. Woods is engaged to Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns.
Jenner and Woods were once close but became estranged in 2019 after Woods admitted to kissing Tristan Thompson, Khloe Kardashian’s then-partner, at an LA gathering. Thompson’s relationship history has remained controversial, including multiple cheating allegations and the revelation that he fathered a son, Theo, with Maralee Nichols.
