Tina Knowles, 71, reveals she's dating 'very nice gentleman' two years after divorce from Richard Lawson

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tina Knowles is moving forward with a fresh start in her personal life.

The 71-year-old designer and businesswoman has found love again nearly two years after her split from her second husband, Richard Lawson.

Tina Knowles opened up about her current relationship status in a recent interview with People, where she revealed, “I am spending time with a friend," who is a "very nice gentleman, and added, "We'll see what happens.”

The comment comes after her divorce from actor Lawson, whom she married in 2015 after years of friendship and a two-year romance.

The pair wed in a yacht ceremony near Newport Beach, California, but Knowles filed for divorce in July 2023 after eight years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

In her memoir, 'Matriarch', Knowles reflected on the decision to part ways, although she didn't detail the reasons.

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love is also not a competition or mired in jealousy,” she wrote in the book. “I made the decision to divorce with a heavy heart but totally without malice, and I have not lost a night of sleep over it.”

Before Richard Lawson, Tina Knowles was married to Mathew Knowles for 31 years, the father of her daughters, Beyonce and Solange.

But their relationship suffered due to Mathew’s infidelity. “I was caught in this dance with him, each doing the same steps over and over. He would cheat or act up, and I would say I'd had enough,” Knowles said in her memoir.

"He would beg for forgiveness, crying and promising to get better. But this is what married people did, I told myself,” she continued.

They separated in 2009 after his affair with Alexsandra Wright came to light. Though they briefly reconciled, the relationship ended for good in 2010 when Mathew fathered another child with TaQoya Branscomb.

Their divorce was finalized in 2011. “I clearly knew my relationship with Mathew was unhealthy, and it was the fear of going it alone that kept me stuck,” Knowles shared.

“I had been avoiding Mathew lately, afraid to cut the cord, and he had retaliated by seeing another woman," she said.

Tina Knowles also revealed in her memoir how her daughters responded differently when they learned she had briefly rekindled her relationship with Mathew.

“He’d changed after new counseling,” she wrote. “I didn’t believe him, but he was persistent, proved he’d gotten help, and as he courted me, I found myself falling in love again.”

“The magnetic pull between us, this cosmic cord I had tried to cut so many times, was stronger than ever,” she wrote.

She added that their “bond seemed stronger because we were sneaking,” but they “knew the kids would be so mad at us if they found out we were together again.”

On Mother’s Day, she finally told her daughters about the reunion.

“Beyonce was more understanding than Solange, who I know was just being protective of me,” Knowles wrote.

“They each loved their dad in different ways, and I sometimes felt my youngest was so much like her dad that she felt his moments of failing on a soul-deep level," she revealed.
