Tom Brady defends Travis Kelce’s outburst at Andy Reid as he says ‘emotions are so high’ during the game
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Brady, former NFL quarterback with New England Patriots, knows what it’s like to be a passionate football player.
He doesn’t blame Travis Kelce for his recent outburst at Andy Reid on Super Bowl sideline.
Travis Kelce yelled at Andy Reid for wanting to keep him in the game
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was seen shouting and grabbing his coach’s arm after the team lost the ball on the field.
Following the reports, citing lip leaders, he was asking Coach Ried to keep him in the game with profanity-laden words.
The incident sparked a lot of online reactions, but the former Patriots quarterback came to Travis’ defense.
Tom said on his podcast 'Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray' that he understood Travis’ emotions and that he had been in similar situations before.
“There’s always little family issues and of course I don’t mind seeing it 'cause I was a part of a lot of those things,” the 46-year-old said.
“Emotions are so high. You are definitely not centered and balanced. You’re not in a meditative state at that point. You are fully determined to go out there and to win. So I think a lot of the things that are said during the games, people should just let them fly off their back,” he said.
Tom Brady praises Andy Reid for handling Travis Kelce as a competitor
Tom Brady also praised Andy Reid, who he called 'Big Red', for handling the situation calmly and professionally.
“Coach Reid handled it just awesome, like he always does, ‘cause he just said, ‘I was a little off balance and Travis is such a competitor,’” Brady added according to E! News.
“I love that because it just speaks to his leadership ability. It speaks to the self-confidence that Coach Reid has in himself, too, 'cause he doesn’t take that personally at all. He doesn’t look at that and feel like someone offended him,” he added.
The Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in a row
The heated moment seemed to be forgotten by the end of the game, as the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 and won their second consecutive Super Bowl.
Travis, who joked that he was telling his coach he loved him, did not reveal what he said to Andy Reid, but the coach later commented on the exchange.
“He keeps me young,” the 65-year-old told CBS after the game, adding “He caught me off balance. Normally, I give him a little bit, but I didn’t have any feet under me.”
