Tom Cruise lives out of a suitcase ‘like a working-class actor' despite his $600M net worth, says source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise has a surprisingly humble lifestyle despite boasting a salary of $50 million per year.
Recently, a source close to the ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor told In Touch Weekly that the 62-year-old actor lives “like a working-class actor when he’s actually still one of the biggest stars in the world.”
According to the source, Cruise, who has a net worth of $600 million, “pretty much lives out of a suitcase,” and allows himself little to no vacation time.
Tom Cruise lives like ‘a working class actor’ despite earning millions
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tome Cruise has a net worth of $600 million and draws a paycheck of $50 million in salary per year.
Yet, the source shared that the “economics” of the ‘Top Gun’ actor’s movie career never see an upward graph as Cruise allegedly donates a huge chunk of money to Scientology, the religion to which he is extremely devoted.
The actor started his movie career with ‘Endless Love’ in 1981 and got his breakthrough after starring in 1983’s 'Risky Business'.
Five years into his movie career, the Hollywood star was introduced to Scientology by his then-wife Mimi Rogers in 1986. Hence began Cruise's decades-long association with Scientology, which was founded in 1950 by L Ron Hubbard and is currently headed up by David Miscavige.
However, the source shared that the exact details of Cruise’s involvement with Scientology - including social, economic, and religious attachment - remain unclear.
Nevertheless, the well-placed industry insider hinted that as Cruise is eyeing a blockbuster 2025 with ‘Top Gun 3’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2’, the Scientology top bosses are also expecting an influx of a good amount of money from the superstar.
The source shared, “After all the hits and all the starring roles, the economics of Tom’s movie career are still completely upside down because of his devotion to Scientology and his willingness to back that up with money right out of his own pocket.”
They further noted, “Tom should have hundreds of millions of dollars from his decades of success, but that is not how he lives at all, and, especially in the last few years, he’s whittled down his property holdings and pretty much lives out of a suitcase and moves from movie project to movie project with little to no vacation time.”
However, the source suggested that it is not only Cruise’s tight schedule that is responsible for his eclectic lifestyle.
“Tom has been making more than $20 million per movie since the mid-nineties,” yet the source revealed that the actor’s coffers are surprisingly a bit bare.
“He says he’s all about the work, but there’s a lot more going on here and you can’t help but wonder where all the money he’s making is going,” revealed the source, before adding, “He should be a billionaire by now and he clearly isn’t!”
Moreover, the source added that “he’s living like a working-class actor when he’s actually still one of the biggest stars in the world.”
The source famously concluded hinting, “Scientology is clearly benefiting from Tom’s sky-high status, even if Tom himself isn’t.
Tom Cruise ‘literally has no friends’, reveals insider
The insider’s take on Tom Cruise’s economic condition came just months after another source who worked with the star dished to the same outlet that he “literally has no friends.”
Speaking to In Touch Weekly, the source shared, “Let’s be real here, Tom lives for the business of being a global movie star, and it’s not exactly ‘work’ for him because he goes at it like a 24/7 lifestyle choice.”
Speaking of the actor, who is currently working on ‘MI 8’, the source added, “He literally has no friends who can keep pace with him, and that’s all been exacerbated this summer as he finally puts Mission: Impossible 8 to bed and can move onto other projects.”
“He only socializes with the moguls and other A-listers to further his movie ambitions, and it’s pretty clear when you spend any stretch of time with him that he’s a lonely guy and would rather be off shooting a mega stunt than pretending he likes his downtime,” revealed the insider, shedding light on his social life.
They further noted, “He never even takes vacations without pasting on some kind of work function to it, like a location scout or just a box full of scripts to read and movies to watch.”
“You want to tell the guy, ‘Get a life!’ but with a person as strong-willed as Tom, that would never work,” concluded the source while commenting on the actor's busy work schedule.
