Tom Cruise wanted romantic 'connection' with Lady Gaga before her engagement to Michael Polansky
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise was enthralled with Lady Gaga and hoped she would be single. However, her recent engagement to Michael Polansky has bruised his ego, claimed an insider.
Songstress Gaga, 38, and businessman Polansky, 46, have maintained a low-key romance. In 2020, the couple made their debut appearance together at a Las Vegas New Year's Eve celebration.
During the Covid-19 epidemic, they ended up having to spend time in quarantine together in Gaga's Malibu home, which eventually brought them closer.
Tom Cruise wanted to 'spend time' with Lady Gaga
Speaking to In Touch Weekly, an insider revealed, "Tom fancies Gaga and wasn’t even shy about the fact he thought she was phenomenal, but once again must cross another lady off the list of potential girlfriends – she is taken, and it looks like she’s really going to marry this guy."
The 'Mission Impossible' star, 62, was unable to win over the 'Bad Romance' singer, despite flirting with her during one of her May 2022 gigs, when she was seen kissing Cruise on the cheek backstage.
"It’s getting kind of embarrassing at this point, even someone with his overwhelming arrogance can take a blow to the heart," the source added.
"He really thought they shared a special connection and didn’t think Michael would be on the scene forever."
The source added that the 'Risky Business' actor allegedly had a thing for Gaga for years and even wanted her to sing the theme song, 'Hold My Hand', for his 'Top Gun' sequel, and said, "They hit it off working on [Maverick]."
However, Cruise, who has been unlucky in love, adores Gaga's work and is not resentful about missing out on one of his many love interests.
The source said, "He wanted and still wants her to be involved in upcoming projects and thinks it would be a great way to spend time together and explore the connection but now with the engagement he’ll have to deal with it."
The pop artist called the software entrepreneur her "fiance" during the Paris Olympic Games in April, confirming their engagement.
Tom Cruise previously revealed how Lady Gaga contributed to the 'Top Gun: Maverick' soundtrack
The Hollywood icon lavished admiration on Lady Gaga, who was included on the soundtrack of his then-upcoming film 'Top Gun: Maverick', during his May 2022 conversation on 'The Late Late Show With James Corden'.
In April 2022, Gaga was assigned to compose the theme song for Cruise's follow-up to the 1986 'Top Gun' movie. The 'Mission Impossible' star was utterly delighted when the singer's upbeat, lyrical ballad, 'Hold My Hand', was presented.
Cruise said that the "incredible" Gaga was "not just on the soundtrack" but also "helped compose the score," as per Pearl & Dean Cinemas.
"It just opened up the whole movie. She’s amazing. It just opened those doors to the emotional core of the film that we had… in that moment, things just came together in such a beautiful way," Cruise exclaimed at the time.
The 'Top Gun' star added, "Her song that she’d written just fell right in and became, really, the underlying score and the heartbeat of our film. Her talent is boundless, you’ll love the music in this movie."
The singer thanked Cruise for coming to the Las Vegas residency in a heartfelt tribute on her Instagram only one day before the actor's appearance on the late-night show.
"Thank you for coming to the show last night. I love you my friend," Gaga said in the caption of an image she uploaded of herself giving the Oscar-nominated actor a gentle peck on the cheek.
