LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Patrick Mahomes’ distinctive running style is often a topic of conversation, particularly among fans of rival teams who struggle against him.

His movement has been humorously compared to the Monstars from 'Space Jam', who famously stacked themselves in a trench coat to sneak into Madison Square Garden.

Travis Kelce teased Patrick Mahomes with a playful comparison on 'New Heights' podcast

In a recent episode of the 'New Heights' podcast, Kelce humorously teased Mahomes about his unconventional running style.

Citing a tweet from Pat McAfee that featured a GIF of Forrest Gump, Kelce said, “I don’t think Pat really runs like Forrest. He doesn’t have any knee drive! Are you kidding me? That’s all that Forrest had. Pat runs like he doesn’t have any knees. […] There’s a meme online right now of an ostrich running away from a dog. Just like weaving in and out inside…I mean that’s Pat Mahomes. A little top-heavy with the skinny legs, and he’s out there just kind of like leaning. He’s scampering, though! He’s out of there. Ostriches can roll, now. You can’t tell me this is Pat weaving in and out of the defense. […] Shout out to Pat — Pat Vick!”

This comparison evokes memories of acting techniques, particularly the practice of using animal movements to inspire physicality in characters.

Patrick Mahomes is a one-of-a-kind athlete redefining quarterback movement

Unlike those fictional characters, Mahomes doesn’t need to steal talent from others; he is arguably one of the most gifted athletes of our time.

His running captivates audiences due to the contrast between his seemingly awkward and unsteady appearance when a play breaks down and his uncanny ability to dodge defenders, showcasing a unique blend of klutziness and exceptional spatial awareness.

The dynamic partnership of Travis Kelce and Mahomes has propelled the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories in the last five years - a remarkable achievement that most NFL players only dream of experiencing even once in their careers.

While Mahomes and Kelce have reached this pinnacle multiple times, the journey and the good times shared along the way are equally significant.

Theater techniques meet NFL talents

Although it may seem unconventional, many actors employ this technique to enhance their performances, as seen in the works of Jake Gyllenhaal in 'Nightcrawler' and Jim Carrey in 'Ace Ventura'.

While it’s doubtful that anyone in drama school ever channeled an ostrich, the idea of mimicking Mahomes’ running style for fun is tempting.

Regardless of the playful critiques, it’s important to acknowledge Mahomes’ impressive skills, particularly after his powerful run against 49ers defensive back Malik Mustapha at the goal line last Sunday.

His ability to make plays and evade defenders continues to make him one of the most exciting athletes to watch in the NFL.
