PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former president Donald Trump's 2024 campaign released a surprising statement on Tuesday in response to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz being selected as Vice President Kamala Harris's running mate, according to Mediaite.

Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt's statement was swiftly mocked online for criticizing Governor Walz's support of policies allowing convicted felons to vote.

Donald Trump himself is a convicted felon, having been found guilty of 34 charges related to falsifying business records to hide hush money payments during his 2016 presidential campaign.

What did Trump campaign say regarding Tim Walz being chosen as Harris’ running mate?

The Trump campaign statement read, “It’s no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate – Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State. While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks.'”

“From proposing his own carbon-free agenda to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide. If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American’s nightmare,” the statement added.

Political commentators and reporters ridiculed the Trump campaign's online post, highlighting the inconsistency in criticizing legislation that would benefit their own presidential candidate if he were to reside in Minnesota.

The Huffington Post’s Jennifer Bendery remarked, “The Trump campaign is attacking Tim Walz for restoring voting rights to convicted felons. Who… wants to tell them.”

Republican attorney turned anti-Trump activist, George Conway, quipped, “You would think that Trump would *like* the fact that Walz thinks convicted felons should be allowed to vote.”

Internet mocks Trump campaign for criticizing Tim Walz for allowing convicted felons to vote

People online lambasted Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt for making weak arguments against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's vice-presidential candidacy after he was chosen as Kamala Harris’s running mate on Tuesday.

One X user remarked, "These are weak attacks and will accelerate Trump’s slide in the polls."

Another user argued, "Okay, let me get this straight. Walz is accused of embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, and you've got a problem with that. But you don't have a hard time with a CONVICTED FELON running for President???? Hmmmmm."

Another user asked, "'Cows and rocks' is all you got?? That’s it? I’ve never been so relieved in my life."

One X user asserted, "I agree. Convicted felons should NOT be allowed to vote. Or to run for office. Buh-bye."

Another user said, "What's wrong with allowing convicted felons to vote? You're allowing one to run for president. @GOP."

A user quipped, "So, he’d allow Donald to vote as a convicted felon? And that’s spun as a bad thing in her eyes. These people are profoundly weird."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Even the Trump campaign is upset Walt would let Trump vote." [sic]
