FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA: Special Counsel Jack Smith has submitted a response in support of the government's request to modify the bail conditions of former President Donald Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case, citing concerns regarding the safety of law enforcement officials.

The motion filed in response to the opposition from Trump's legal team, highlights specific recent incidents where Trump supporters made threats against FBI agents, according to MeidasTouch.

The Special Counsel’s filing underscores the increasing risks faced by federal agents, particularly following Trump's provocative language in his campaign rallies and select media appearances.

On the same day as the threat, the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee publicly made an unfounded claim that President Joe Biden and the FBI were involved in a plot to assassinate him.

This claim, in addition to being a clear falsehood, appears to have agitated his supporters, resulting in heightened dangers for those involved in the investigation against the former POTUS.

What did Special Counsel Jack Smith claim in his court filing?

“Ensuring the safety of law enforcement personnel is paramount,” Special Counsel Jack Smith stated in the motion.

“The former President’s statements have a demonstrable impact on his supporters, and it is imperative that we address these threats promptly and effectively.”

Proposed changes to former President Donald Trump's bail terms include limitations on his vitriolic falsehood that federal agents were attempting to "take (him) out."

Smith contends that these measures are entirely compliant with the First Amendment and are required to stop further incitement as well as to safeguard the integrity of the judicial system.

The Special Counsel's initial request for a gag order against Trump in the case was denied by Federal Judge Aileen Cannon in late May due to procedural issues, but he was allowed to resubmit.

A few days later, Smith refiled his motion.
