PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday, November 30 that he has picked his son-in-law Jared Kushner's father, Charles Kushner, to serve as the United States Ambassador to France.

Notably, in 2005, Charles was convicted of tax evasion and witness tampering in a prosecution by then-Attorney for the District of New Jersey Chris Christie. The real estate developer served two years and was pardoned in 2020 along with Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and others by Trump, as reported by Mediaite.

Donald Trump hails Charles Kushner as a 'tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker'

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Donald Trump wrote, "I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the US Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests."

The president-elect added, "Congratulations to Charlie, his wonderful wife Seryl, their 4 children, & 14 grandchildren. His son, Jared, worked closely with me in the White House, in particular on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, & the Abraham Accords."

"Together, we will strengthen America’s partnership with France, our oldest Ally, & one of our greatest!" he concluded.

The nomination appears to be the first administration position that Trump has formally offered to a relative since his re-election, per the outlet.

Trump also announced two more picks - former aide, Kash Patel, to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Chad Chronister, sheriff of Florida's Hillsborough County, to head the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Criminal charges against Charles Kushner

Charles Kushner pleaded guilty to federal charges of tax evasion, campaign finance offenses, and witness tampering and was sentenced to two years in prison in 2005, as per BBC.

From the evidence presented in court, prosecutors said Charles targeted one of the cooperating witnesses, his sister, and her husband by hiring a woman to seduce his brother-in-law, intending to intimidate him by sending video footage to his wife.

Christie, who went on to serve as the governor of New Jersey, once called Charles's case "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes" he had ever prosecuted.
