Trump and Melania Trump take phone calls from children as part of NORAD’s Santa Claus tracking tradition
The first couple joined the long-standing holiday tradition, spending more than 20 minutes speaking with children while seated next to a Christmas tree. Trump connected with families over speakerphone, while Melania used a handset to chat directly with the children.
During the calls, Trump asked kids what they hoped to receive from Santa Claus and even shared some lighthearted banter about recent economic figures. "Great numbers, great financials. I don’t think the kids are too interested in that," he joked, referencing the latest GDP report.
He also explained the importance of tracking Santa Claus, saying, "We want to make sure that he's not infiltrated, that we are not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa." Speaking to a child from Oklahoma, he added with a laugh, "Don’t ever leave Oklahoma."
In another conversation, when a child said they did not want coal as a gift, Trump replied, "You mean clean, beautiful coal. I had to do that, I'm sorry." He emphasized that the coal is 'clean and beautiful' and urged the child to 'please remember at all costs.'
In total, Trump took six calls and remarked that he 'could do this all day long,' before noting that he needed to return to handling international matters.
