Trump gushes over Melania on Christmas Eve, calls her 'the greatest First Lady'

PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: On the eve of Christmas, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump took part in the annual NORAD Santa Tracker tradition, speaking with children from across the country as they followed Santa Claus’ journey around the world.

During the event, the President paused several times to praise his wife, highlighting her popularity and presence as they fielded calls together. At one point, Trump turned toward her and said, “Is this the greatest First Lady? People LOVE our First Lady, right honey?”

The moment drew attention as the couple sat side by side in gold-trimmed armchairs at Mar-a-Lago, continuing a holiday tradition that has become a familiar feature of Christmas Eve in recent years.

President Trump repeatedly acknowledged Melania Trump’s public appeal while speaking with children and families. As she listened in and spoke with callers on a handset, he added, “How are you doing, First Lady? Oh, look at you. How elegant is the First Lady? Look at you.”

The First Lady smiled as Trump continued to emphasize her popularity, praising her demeanor and connection with the public. Throughout the calls, Melania calmly engaged with children, asking about their holiday plans and what they hoped Santa would bring them.

The exchange offered a rare glimpse of the couple’s dynamic during a lighthearted public moment, one centered on tradition rather than politics.

Trump discusses gift wishes with children

During the calls, Trump also engaged children in conversations about their Christmas wish lists, often adding humor to his responses.

When one child mentioned wanting a Kindle e-reader, Trump responded playfully, saying, “That’s pretty good. You must be a high-IQ person. We need more high-IQ people in the country.”

In another moment, an 8-year-old girl from North Carolina asked whether Santa would be upset if she forgot to leave out cookies. Trump reassured her with a joke, saying, “I think he won’t get mad, but I think he’ll be very disappointed. Santa tends to be a little on the cherubic side.”

The exchanges drew laughter and reflected the informal tone of the event, which focused on creating a cheerful experience for children calling in from across the country.

Trump also talks about clean coal and Oklahoma victory

The conversation occasionally shifted to familiar talking points for the president. While speaking to a child from Kansas who said they did not want coal for Christmas, Trump replied, “Not coal. No, you don’t want coal. You mean clean, beautiful coal. I had to do that, I’m sorry. No, coal is clean and beautiful. Please remember that at all costs.”

Later, while speaking with a child in Oklahoma, Trump referenced his 2024 election victory in the state and joked about Santa’s safety while traveling the globe. “We track Santa all over the world,” he said. “We want to make sure that he’s not infiltrated — that we’re not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa. We found that Santa is good.” 

The lighthearted remarks capped off a holiday tradition that mixed festive cheer with familiar political commentary.
