FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA: Special Counsel Jack Smith presented a large amount of fresh evidence to District Judge Aileen Cannon on Friday, July 5, arguing that imposing a gag order on former President Donald Trump in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case is necessary, according to RawStory.

Smith specifically claimed that Trump's conspiracy theories and criticisms of law enforcement have resulted in racist threats against a judge presiding over one of his other cases.

What did Special Counsel Jack Smith claim in his latest court filing?

Special Counsel Jack Smith requested the gag order from Judge Aileen Cannon, a conservative judge appointed by Donald Trump who has become notorious for favoring the former POTUS.

This comes as the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee and his allies have been spreading an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that the FBI's guidelines for the search warrant at his Mar-a-Lago country club were a signal to assassinate him.

Prosecutors are concerned that the ever-ardent supporters of former President Trump may target FBI agents in response to this supposed threat.

According to Jack Smith's court filing, this wouldn't be the first instance of such an incident taking place as District Judge Tanya Chutkan, overseeing Trump's election conspiracy trial in Washington, DC, has also faced similar threats.

"Three days after the indictment in the election case, and one day after Trump’s initial appearance, Trump posted, 'IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!'" noted Smith. "The following day, one of Trump’s supporters called the chambers of Judge Tanya Chutkan and said, 'Hey you stupid slave n****r,' and then 'threatened to kill anyone who went after President Trump'. The caller went on to say, 'If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, b-tch. . . . You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it'."

The 78-year-old MAGA strongman also attacked Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over his civil fraud case in New York, and insulted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who secured Trump's felony conviction for falsifying business records, calling him a "racist," "animal," and "degenerate psychopath." Both individuals received numerous threats as a result of the ex-president’s unbridled lies and name-calling.

"Over the past year, Trump has repeatedly targeted public servants with vitriolic attacks, resulting in a torrent of death threats, doxing, swatting, and other forms of harassment," Smith mentioned in his concluding remarks. "When he recently decided to falsely accuse the law enforcement agents involved in this case of taking part in a plan to kill him and his family, he knowingly exposed them to similar treatment. The Court should modify his conditions of release to prohibit similar conduct moving forward."

Judge Aileen Cannon, who has frequently clashed with Special Counsel Jack Smith's prosecutors during proceedings, has currently postponed the classified documents trial indefinitely, making it highly unlikely to be heard before the November election.
