The Department of Homeland Security identified the suspect as 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican national.

Donald Trump lashes out at Joe Biden after shooting incident at CBP officer

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday, July 20, blasting Joe Biden after an off-duty CBP officer was allegedly shot in the face and forearm by an undocumented immigrant in New York City.

“Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden,” Trump wrote.

“He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was released,” he added.

The suspect, identified by the Department of Homeland Security as 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, was arrested by Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, in April 2023.

Instead of being deported, he was released into the US under Biden's administration, DHS confirmed to Fox News.

The agency also revealed that Nunez had an active kidnapping warrant in Massachusetts and prior felony arrests. NYC Mayor Eric Adams added during a press conference that Nunez had previously been arrested for assault, violating an order of protection, and had an active bench warrant from the Bronx. He was also wanted for a robbery in December and a stabbing in January 2025.

Trump continued in his post: "The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back. That’s how evil and dangerous they are!"

Authorities say the off-duty CBP officer was sitting in Riverside Park on the night of July 19 when Nunez and another suspect approached on a motorized scooter and tried to rob him. The officer pulled out a gun in self-defense. Both the officer and Nunez were shot multiple times.

Nunez later walked into a local hospital, while the officer is expected to recover.

Trump praised the officer, saying he "bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous skill and courage."

Mayor Adams concluded, "He (Nunez) has inflicted violence in our city and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet."

DHS has lodged an immigration detainer against Nunez.

Donald Trump administration to cut off undocumented immigrants from federal aid programs

Earlier in July, the White House unveiled a sweeping initiative to bar undocumented immigrants from accessing a broad range of taxpayer-funded assistance programs.

On Tuesday, July 8, the Donald Trump administration announced that more than 15 federal aid programs, including those related to health, education, and workforce services, will no longer be available to individuals living in the country illegally. The move is part of a renewed crackdown on illegal immigration. Collectively, these programs cost taxpayers over $40 billion annually.

White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told Fox News Digital that the administration is working to prevent undocumented immigrants from receiving public benefits, emphasizing that such services should be reserved for “hardworking American taxpayers.”

He added, “That ends now. Under President Trump, it’s America first, always.”

A significant portion of the restricted programs are administered by the Department of Health and Human Services, with additional oversight from the Departments of Education, Agriculture, Labor, and Justice.
