WASHINGTON, D.C.: Donald Trump has surpassed Taylor Swift in follower count on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), with 94.7 million followers.

Swift, 34, who is also followed by 94.7 million people on the social media platform, currently holds the ninth position, while Trump advanced to the eighth spot with his slightly larger number of followers.

According to a viral social media post reporting the latest count, Trump was followed by 94,734,077 users as of Sunday, November 17. On the same day, the Grammy winner is followed by 94,734,014 users, giving the 78-year-old president-elect a slight advantage over the songstress.

History between Donald Trump and Taylor Swift

The latest development in X followers count came amid a contentious past between Trump and Swift - two of the most famous Americans.

The ‘Cruel Summer’ singer, a vocal Democrat, has previously criticized the former POTUS for his political views. Before the November election as well, Swift campaigned for the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, by penning a long note on Instagram endorsing her, but failed to sway the election.

However, even before Swift endorsed Harris in September, another controversy brewed between the politician and the musician when in August, Trump posted Swift’s AI-generated pictures that falsely depicted she was campaigning for him.

Swift addressed the incident in her September endorsement of Harris, as she wrote, "It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
