WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump is singing a very different tune about Covid vaccines, after years of bragging about Operation Warp Speed.

On Labor Day morning, the president jumped on Truth Social and demanded that Big Pharma finally spill the beans on their Covid vaccines.

“It’s very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree!” Trump posted.

Never-ending Covid brawl

If you thought the Covid shot debate was ancient history, think again. From day one, the vaccine sparked some of the nastiest political brawls vis-a-vis the pandemic.

The Joe Biden-era mandates that spanned the military, police officers, and emergency workers set off battles over personal freedom, religion, and even free speech.

As horror stories emerged about young, previously healthy people suffering mysterious health problems, there were glaring questions about whether the cure was actually worse than the disease, the Western Journal reported.

Making matters worse, social media and legacy news outlets worked overtime to snuff out debate. Then came the loudest cheerleaders on the left spreading half-truths. MSNBC star Rachel Maddow confidently declared back in March 2021 that “the virus stops with every vaccinated person.” A claim that aged like milk.

CDC shake-up under Robert F Kennedy Jr

In Donald Trump’s second term, however, the vaccine debate is more than just social media forums. It’s reportedly tearing apart federal health agencies.

At the center of it all is Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, a longtime vaccine skeptic who’s been rewriting the playbook on who should and shouldn’t get jabbed.

The fallout has been swift. On August 27, Trump’s team axed Centers for Disease Control Director Susan Monarez, CNBC reported, after butting heads over Covid vaccine policy. Not long after, four top CDC officials decided to walk, The Hill reported.

“With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW," Trump declared.

Pressure on big pharma

Donald Trump called for more transparency. “I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not???” he wrote.

The debate has even pulled in Senate heavyweights. Louisiana Republican Sen Bill Cassidy, the doctor-turned-politician who helped confirm RFK Jr to his HHS role, has stepped up in Trump’s corner.

Though Cassidy admitted to having reservations about RFK Jr's vaccine skepticism, he promised back in February to work with him in an “unprecedentedly close relationship,” according to Politico.

On Labor Day, Cassidy jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to back Trump’s push for transparency.

“People who criticize President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed typically misrepresent and carefully select ‘their facts,’” he wrote. “We should be honest about the success of Operation Warp Speed. President Trump bending the bureaucracy to his will to accomplish safe vaccine development within one year was one of his crowning achievements!”
