WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump shared a lighthearted moment in the Oval Office on Thursday, November 13, pausing a busy day to greet visiting children. In a clip that quickly went viral, he introduced himself simply as “Donald” while offering gifts.

The video, posted by White House Communications Advisor Margo Martin, amassed nearly 500,000 views within two hours and provided a rare, warm snapshot of the president amid a high-intensity news cycle following the end of the historic government shutdown.

Donald Trump charms visiting children in Oval Office

In the clip, an off-camera voice prompts, “He wants to know what your name is,” to which Trump responds with a smile, “My name is Donald.”

Trump also said, “Look at him, he’s got a lot of Italian blood in him,” as he handed out challenge coins to the children, who were the grandchildren of journalist Salena Zito, according to the White House.

He continued complimenting the children, joking, “She said yes, she’s smart,” and adding warmly, “She’s so cute.” Martin’s footage also shows Trump offering the children White House pens, saying, “Okay, do you want a pen? One of them. One, two, three.”

The brief encounter highlighted Trump’s softer side and added to a growing catalog of behind-the-scenes moments Martin frequently shares online.

The clip generated widespread engagement within minutes, with commenters calling the moment “sweet” and “grandpa energy.” 

An X user wrote, "The legacy media will never humanize President Trump."

One replied to Martin's caption saying, "Because it humanizes him, that’s why. And if they humanize him, then they couldn’t get away with everything they’ve done the last decade."

First Lady Melania Trump also drew attention on Thursday when she introduced “Fostering the Future,” a nationwide initiative helping foster youth pursue higher education and technology-driven careers. During remarks at the White House, joined by President Trump, she explained the program would provide college scholarships and job-placement assistance to foster youth, aiming to build long-term financial independence.

“It’s truly inspiring to see everyone gathered here together, united in support of this remarkable initiative,” Melania Trump said. “Our united resolve will foster a thriving future filled with compassion and innovation.”



President Trump signed the new executive order on “Fostering the Future for American Children and Families,” saying it would “make America’s foster care system better, fairer and more effective than ever before.”
