Internet weighs in as Joe Biden says Donald Trump called for debate as he has nothing else to do
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: President Joe Biden took a swipe at Donald Trump for his call to engage in a debate and laughed off the demand on Monday, February 5, during his campaign stop at No 1 Boba Tea in Las Vegas, Nevada, as per Daily Mail.
"If I were him, I would want to debate me, too," told the POTUS, adding, "He's got nothing else to do."
The 2024 presidential election will highly likely turn into a Biden-Trump rematch in light of their decisive lead in their respective party primaries.
Trump became the clear GOP frontrunner after his landslide victories in Iowa and New Hampshire. Similarly, the sitting president also lacks strong opposition from other Democratic presidential contenders, as proved by his overwhelming victory in the South Carolina primary.
Donald Trump calls for immediate debate with Joe Biden
Trump, who had skipped every debate with his Republican opponents, immediately expressed his wish to spar with Biden while talking to conservative commentator Dan Bongino's radio show on February 3.
He said, "I'd like to debate him now because we should debate. We should debate for the good of the country."
The ex-POTUS has redirected his campaign into a general election mode, constantly attacking his likely Democratic opponent, specifically focusing on the worsening crisis at the US-Mexico border.
Trump, who accused his successor of being the cause of the migrant crisis, also explicitly stated his opposition to the newly unveiled bipartisan border bill, calling it a "death wish" for the Republican Party.
On the other hand, he has so far refused to acknowledge his sole GOP opponent, Nikki Haley's demands to debate.
The former South Carolina Governor has issued multiple calls to Trump for a face-to-face debate before the upcoming South Carolina GOP primary on February 24.

Moreover, in light of his latest interest in debating Biden, Haley's campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said, "Now it's time for Trump to man up and agree to debate Nikki Haley. Nikki is ready to put her conservative record and vision for a strong and proud America up against Trump's campaign of chaos and vendettas."
In December 2023, the Republican National Committee canceled its plans to host further debates ahead of the presidential election after Trump refused to participate in the four earlier events.
Internet reacts to Joe Biden's response to Donald Trump's wish for a debate
Soon after President Biden's remarks regarding Trump's wish for a face-to-face debate came to light, netizens spared no time in sharing their thoughts.
One remarked, "Trump wouldn't show up anyway," and another said, "Why should he debate him? Trump wouldn't debate any of his competitors."
A person noted, "Trump has to start debating Nikki Haley to even get a chance at Biden....he is stepping out to quickly...lol."
"Biden should refuse to debate. Trump set the precedent during the primaries," remarked someone else.
An individual quipped, "Gee. Maybe skipping all those GOP primary debates wasn't such a good idea after all," and one more shared, "I’m starting to get the feeling we will never see a Trump vs Biden debate in 2024."
"Wrong. Trump has lots to do; he can play golf, photobomb a wedding, or belly up to the Mar a Lago omelet station," joked another person.
