LANSING, MICHIGAN: A Michigan father of four who was filmed losing his patience with an online prankster has received an extraordinary show of support, with donations to his fundraiser crossing half a million dollars.

But the news does not end there.

Red Baron Pizza has publicly backed its employee, hinting at an Employee of the Month honor, while Walt Z has broken his silence to personally thank thousands of strangers who have rallied behind him and his family.

Red Baron hints that viral dad is Employee of the Month

Red Baron Pizza, on Thursday, October 29, joined the wave of support for Walt after the video of his confrontation with a prankster spread across social media.

The company posted a message on X that appeared to confirm the worker was still employed and had gained plenty of admirers since the incident.

“He’s still here. He’s got a fan club. Including us,” the pizza brand wrote.

The post, which has attracted more than 6 million views, featured a graphic announcing: “Employee of the month nominations are closed.”

“You know why,” the graphic added.

The playful message was widely interpreted as the company throwing its support behind Walt and suggesting he was the obvious choice for the recognition.

It also offered reassurance to viewers who had worried that the viral confrontation might put his job at risk.

The response marked a remarkable turnaround for the worker, who had appeared visibly distressed in the original footage while explaining that he was struggling to manage his financial responsibilities.

Walt Z finally breaks silence

While donations continued pouring in, Walt also addressed supporters directly for the first time through a message posted under his GoFundMe page.

“I wanted to take a moment to personally thank everyone who has donated, shared this fundraiser, or left a kind message. The kindness and encouragement you’ve shown me and my family have meant more than I can put into words,” he wrote.

Walt also reassured supporters that his family was doing well, while explaining why he had largely stayed away from the public attention surrounding the incident.

“My family and I are doing well, and I’m grateful to have supportive people around me. I’ve been keeping things private to protect my family’s privacy, and I appreciate everyone respecting that,” he continued.

The sudden attention has also brought interview requests from several outlets. Walt said he was considering speaking publicly but wanted to be careful about whom he spoke to.

“I’ve also received a lot of interview requests. Being in the spotlight isn’t something I would normally seek out, but I’m considering sharing my story. Before making that decision, I want to make sure it’s with people who will treat me and my family with care and respect our privacy,” he added.

He ended the message by thanking people who had supported him even if he had not personally replied to them.

“Please know that even if I haven’t responded to your message or comment, your support has made a difference. From me and my family, thank you,” he wrote.

Fundraiser goal raised to $700K

The financial support has grown at an astonishing pace since the video began circulating online.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by Luke Oakenshield initially attracted donations from people who wanted to help Walt after hearing him describe his struggles.

By October 30, contributions had crossed $500,000. The fundraiser's goal was also raised to $700,000 as donations continued to arrive.

The campaign was started after viewers saw Walt explain that he was a father of four, had a mortgage to pay and was working long hours.

Oakenshield, who said he had no personal connection to the worker, wanted to provide financial breathing room and help protect him from any possible consequences of the viral encounter.

Walt was initially difficult to identify, prompting the fundraiser organizer to ask social media users for help locating him.

Once contact was established, the organizer said the worker was overwhelmed by the generosity and wanted his family’s privacy respected.

The cruel prank that sparked it all

The chain of events began when a social media creator approached Walt while he was stocking frozen pizzas at a supermarket.

The prankster played a fake Apple Pay payment sound and pretended that he had taken money from the worker.

What followed was not the amused reaction the creator appeared to be seeking.

Walt became increasingly frustrated as the interaction continued, explaining that he was already running late and had children waiting for him at home.

“I don't have time for this. My life is hard enough as it is,” he said in the widely circulated footage.

He also told the prankster that he was struggling to pay his mortgage and had four children to support.

“You’re probably making money off this. I can’t even pay my mortgage, and I got four kids at home,” Walt said.

Viewers were particularly moved by his explanation that his work commitments were keeping him away from his children and that he had another early start ahead of him.

The video ended up triggering widespread criticism of the prankster.

The original Instagram account 'Three of a Kind' was reportedly deactivated, while the footage continued spreading across other platforms, drawing widespread attention and helping drive donations for Walt and his family.
