Prince Harry mocked for ‘willing’ to return to royal duties amid King Charles’ cancer treatment
LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince Harry is anticipated to take on a temporary role as an active royal and is "willing" to help the royal family as his father, King Charles III, fights cancer, as per insiders who spoke to The Times on Friday, February 16.
The report indicates improving relations on both sides of the Atlantic, despite this week's swirling allegations of a growing split between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family.
Harry, 39, and his wife Meghan Markle, 42, resigned as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and are now recognized as media stars and benefactors.
He continues to be a counsellor of state and fifth in line for the throne. But since he moved to California, it is unlikely that he will be asked to fill in for the King, per the New York Post.
Prince Harry says he loves his family
During an appearance on 'Good Morning America' on Friday, February 16, the Duke of Sussex told news correspondent Will Reeve, "Look, I love my family," breaking his silence after visiting his cancer-stricken father.
"The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that."
Host Reeve inquired Harry whether King Charles' cancer diagnosis might serve to reunite the family, to which the renegade royal replied, "Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure."
"Throughout all these [Invictus Games] families, I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together," Harry explained.
While preparing for the Invictus Games in Canada, Harry revealed to reporting host Reeve that he spoke with his estranged father and found out about his diagnosis.
He spoke about his recent 24-hour travel to London to see his ailing father, saying, "I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could."
According to The Times report, the Duke of Sussex has also informed friends that he would fill in for Charles in the event of his sickness. Following the diagnosis of the King's illness, the Duke and his father are reported to have had multiple "warm exchanges".
"On all practical levels it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the King while he’s sick," the source told The Times.
The insider added: "The details of the Clarence House meeting and subsequent conversations are private, but the feeling is that this arrangement could work."
Source claims 'neither side' wants Harry and Meghan back in UK
Harry has come under fire from a royal specialist after insiders claimed they worried Harry had gone to see the Monarch in order to have something to remark about it in the 'GMA' interview.
Royal analyst Hugo Vickers told Daily Mail, "I personally, actually don't think that there's any wish on anyone's side for him to come home at the moment, and take up royal duties again," implying that 'neither side' wants Harry and Meghan to return to the UK.
"He can't suddenly pick up royal duties again, under the present circumstances, it's quite a long way [away]. It's always possible to reconcile. It's always possible for things to be sorted out, but not that quickly. So no, is the answer," Vickers explained.
Another source slammed and said, "Harry would have known he had this interview in the US and would be asked about his father, so needed material."
"The palace was not stupid and knew they had to limit the time he could spend with the King," per The US Sun.
Internet slams Harry for being 'willing' to take on temporary royal role
Social media users also did not spare the Duke of Sussex for his alleged 'willingness' to take on a temporary role as an active royal amid Charles' cancer diagnosis.
One user took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the Prince by saying, "No thanks. We’re got a spare."
A second one sarcastically wrote, "The well has run dry, and the Duke and Duchess of Duplicity cannot survive the real world without Royal Coin! I hope HM The King wishes Harry good luck. Cheers to the Sussex!"
"Spare for real," mocked a third one, while a fourth one chimed in, "He goes running for the shelter as his mamas little helper."
Another one snarked, "King Charles replied, “Nah, we’re good.”
"Of course. He misses that money & royal treatment….." seethed another one.
