WASHINGTON, DC: White House communications director Steven Cheung said on Tuesday, July 29, that the outrage over an American Eagle ad featuring Sydney Sweeney was "cancel culture run amok."

The ad campaign, made in a larger partnership between Sweeney and the popular brand, used wordplay to describe the actress, who appears in jeans as having "good genes."

Steven Cheung says Americans are 'tired of this bulls**t' as he blasts 'dense liberal thinking'

Steven Cheung, a longtime adviser for President Donald Trump, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Cancel culture run amok. This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bulls**t."

He wrote this in response to an MSNBC op-ed that said it was "fair" to condemn Sweeney's American Eagle ad.

The headline of the MSNBC article read, "Sydney Sweeney's ad shows an unbridled cultural shift toward whiteness."

Moreover, critics said that the jeans campaign leads to a dog whistle for eugenics and a glorification of whiteness.

In one of several clips for the ad, Sweeney is seen saying, clad in a denim-on-denim outfit, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color."

She says, "My jeans are blue," as the camera pans across her blue denim and her blue eyes.

Another clip from the ad shows the 'Euphoria' actress saying, "My body’s composition is determined by my jeans/genes,” as the camera slowly pans down her torso.

Meanwhile, American Eagle Chief Marketing Officer Craig Brommers told media trade publications in response that the campaign's "clever, even provocative language" was "definitely going to push buttons."

Texas Republican Ted Cruz also took to X to blast the left for criticizing the ad featuring Sweeney.

He wrote, "Wow. Now the crazy Left has come out against beautiful women. I'm sure that will poll well…."

Internet sides with Steven Cheung as he calls outrage over Sydney Sweeney ad 'moronic'

Several internet users sided with Steven Cheung as he wrote on X that the outrage over an American Eagle ad featuring Sydney Sweeney was "cancel culture run amok."

One wrote, "The Left doesn't know the difference between gene and jean," and another added, "This Steven Cheung is spot on. This warped way of thinking, is destroying our American fabric. We are all made up of different cultures but the color of our skin should not be predominate, we all bleed red."

A person stated, "Americans have had Enough," whereas someone else mentioned, "Amen...!!! Message to the cultural Marxist hacks @MSNBC, PLEASE KEEP IT UP! Your candidates won't be able to win a city council election, let alone a national election, for decades, if ever again!"

One more wrote, "The Leftist are really losing what minds faster than we thought."
