WASHINGTON, DC: Usha Chilukuri Vance is heading into the limelight, not just as the wife of JD Vance, the Republican Ohio senator tapped to be Donald Trump's 2024 running mate, but as an accomplished woman in her own right.

A litigator with an Ivy League education and a prestigious legal career, Usha is now facing increased public attention. Born to Indian immigrants in the suburbs of San Diego, Usha was raised by a mechanical engineer and a biologist in a religious Hindu family, as per Daily Mail.

Usha Vance exhibited strong academic drive from an early age

From an early age, Usha exhibited a strong academic drive, eventually moving across the country to attend Yale University. There, she majored in history before continuing her studies at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar.

At Yale Law School, Usha distinguished herself as an editor of the Yale Law Journal and managing editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology.

She was involved in various legal clinics during her studies, including the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project. Additionally, she took part in the Media Freedom and Information Access Clinic and gained experience with the Supreme Court Advocacy Clinic.

Her exemplary academic performance led to prestigious clerkships with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Brett Kavanaugh (then a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia), and Judge Amul Thapar in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Currently, Usha is an attorney at the law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson, splitting her time between San Francisco and Washington, DC. She focuses on complex civil litigation and appeals, with her cases covering a wide range of topics including higher education, local government, entertainment, and technology.

Usha and JD Vance's relationship began while both were students at Yale Law School

Usha and JD Vance's relationship began in 2013 while both were students at Yale Law School. In his book, 'Hillbilly Elegy', Vance described Usha as his "Yale spirit guide," a testament to her influence and support during their formative years. They married in 2014, one year out of law school, and have since built a family together.

Their first son, Ewan Blaine, was born in 2017, followed by their second son, Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel, who was born in December 2021. The couple is raising their three children in Cincinnati.

Usha has been a steadfast supporter of Vance's political ambitions. She was a visible presence during his 2022 Ohio Senate race, frequently appearing at campaign events and featuring in his campaign ads.

In these ads, she spoke about JD’s upbringing and their life together as partners and parents. She characterized Vance as an incredible father and her best friend, emphasizing the strong personal bond they share.

Usha Vance prepares for an even greater level of public scrutiny

With JD Vance now tapped to be Donald Trump’s running mate, Usha is preparing for an even greater level of public scrutiny. In a recent interview with 'Fox & Friends', she reflected on the challenges and surprises of Vance’s first campaign.

"I don't know if anyone is ever ready for that kind of scrutiny. I think we found the first campaign he embarked on to be a shock. It was so different from anything we had ever done before, but it was an adventure," Usha said.

Despite the potential upheaval, Usha remains grounded and focused on their family's well-being. When asked about the possibility of becoming the Second Lady and what issues she might champion, Usha declined to speculate. "We are getting too far ahead of ourselves to even consider it," she expressed.
