The pair also worked on its sequel which came a year later in 1993. However, when Whoopi Goldberg was approached for the third edition, she wasn’t willing to do it without Dame Maggie Smith

“I just can't do it with anybody but you. We don't want to do it without you, Maggie,” Goldberg said during the talk show ‘Loose Women.’

The two shared a special bond and, in her memoir’ ‘Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me,’ Goldberg even mentioned how Smith supported her during her mother’s death, reported Entertainment Weekly.

"For the next five hours, Maggie sat with me and let me talk her ear off, telling stories about my mom, my growing-up years, and my brother. We laughed a lot. I don’t know if I was in shock. I had never been in shock before. I don’t think I cried. I didn’t feel anything except a big wave of kindness from Maggie," she wrote.

Goldberg further penned, "I’ve got to say, she is one of those people for whom I would do anything. Anything Maggie Smith needs, I got her covered.”
