Whoopi Goldberg praises Michelle Obama for shutting down 'vicious and false' divorce rumors

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg isn’t having it with the latest wave of rumors targeting Michelle and Barack Obama’s marriage.
On the Friday, April 11 episode of 'The View,' the veteran talk show host and EGOT winner firmly addressed the speculation surrounding the Obamas’ relationship, praising the former first lady’s approach in setting the record straight.
Whoopi Goldberg slams 'vicious and false' divorce rumours about Barack and Michelle Obama
"The Obamas have been dogged by vicious and false rumors," Whoopi Goldberg said during the segment, clearly unimpressed by the gossip.
She went on to mock the claims of a supposed divorce between the couple, telling the audience, "Look. You know that's not going on."
The conversation was sparked by Michelle’s recent appearance on Sophia Bush's 'Work in Progress' podcast, where she decisively quashed the divorce rumors that have swirled in recent months.
Speculation about their marriage emerged following her absence from major public events like Donald Trump’s inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral.

On the podcast, Michelle said, "That's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with like disappointing people," she said.
"I mean, so much so that this year people were, you know — they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing. This couldn't be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that's what society does to us," she added.
Michelle further shared, "I chose to do what was best for me. Not what I had to do. Not what I thought other people wanted me to do," as per the BBC.
Whoopi Goldberg applauds Michelle Obama for addressing divorce rumors head-on
Whoopi Goldberg and her co-hosts watched a clip from Michelle Obama's interview, where the former first lady calmly and confidently denied any marital discord with Barack Obama.
The moment resonated with Goldberg, who lauded her decision to speak out publicly.

"I think addressing rumors like this head-on is a great move," she said, noting that speculation can often spiral when left unchecked. She then posed the question to the table: "Do you think it'll put anything to rest?"
Sunny Hostin chimed in with a realistic take on the public’s appetite for drama, suggesting that tabloid-style talk likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
"The rumor mill will run amok no matter what," Hostin said, before adding, "I love what [Michelle] said, though."
The co-hosts seemed to agree that while the Obamas may never fully escape public scrutiny, Michelle’s poised and proactive response was both admirable and empowering.
