CANNES, FRANCE: A Cannes Film Festival security guard has once again found herself in the spotlight, this time for an incident involving K-pop star Yoona.

The 33-year-old singer and actress, known for her role in Girls' Generation, was preparing to pose for red-carpet photos in a stunning pink Monique Lhuillier gown when the security guard intervened, the New York Post reported.

Cannes security guard's clashes with celebs: Yoona incident adds to controversy

A video of the interaction, which quickly went viral on X, shows Yoona ascending the steps and turning to wave at fans, only to be stopped by the guard's arm. Although the encounter did not escalate into a heated exchange, Yoona appeared visibly frustrated but maintained her composure.

Social media users praised Yoona for handling the situation with grace and class.

This incident follows previous clashes involving the same security guard with other celebrities at the festival. Kelly Rowland and Massiel Taveras were both hurried off the red carpet by the same guard in earlier incidents, which also drew attention and criticism.

Kelly Rowland, a former Destiny's Child star, was rushed off the red carpet, causing a stir among fans and onlookers. Similarly, Massiel Taveras, a Dominican television presenter and former beauty queen, faced a similar experience.

Both incidents were characterized by the guard's brisk and seemingly impatient handling of the stars, which did not sit well with many festival attendees and fans.

Internet divided over Cannes security guard's clash with Yoona

The internet has erupted in debate following a series of incidents involving a Cannes Film Festival security staff and several high-profile celebrities, with the most recent being K-pop star Yoona.

The guard's interactions, particularly with Kelly Rowland and Massiel Taveras, have sparked widespread discussions online, with varying opinions.

Some social media users defended the guard's actions as overly diligent but not malicious, while others have criticized the behavior as unprofessional and disruptive.

One social media user suggested, "Racism? No. Taking your job too seriously? Yes," implying the guard's actions were more about strict adherence to protocol than any discriminatory intent.

Another user reflected on the lost photo opportunity, saying, "This would be a nice pic if not for that damn arm."

Admirers of Yoona praised her over handling of the situation.

"You could tell Yoona’s pissed but she handled it with grace and class," one social media user said while another wrote, "And Yoona responds with a kind smile."

Some users expressed frustration with the festival's management, with one suggesting, "If Cannes doesn't fire her, it should be cancelled. This is the only time actors globally get to showcase their talent and work. Not okay."
