Al Pacino makes rare remark about 1-year-old son Roman as he opens up about his late-in-life dad role
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Al Pacino, the legendary actor known for his iconic roles in 'The Godfather' and 'Scarface,' recently shared rare and heartfelt reflections on his one-year-old son, Roman.
Pacino, now 84, welcomed Roman with Noor Alfallah in June 2023. While he has kept most details about his son private, a new interview with The New York Times reveals just how deeply the young child has impacted his life.
Al Pacino reveals son Roman is inspiration behind upcoming memoir
During the conversation, Al Pacino expressed his awe at watching Roman grow and develop, saying, "He’s come into the world a little more now. He’s learning things.”
As a father in his 80s, Pacino admitted that his son has become a significant source of inspiration for him—so much so that Roman is one of the driving forces behind Pacino’s decision to write his memoir 'Sonny Boy', to be published on Tuesday, October 8.
Reflecting on the book’s purpose, he shared, "That has been a campaign for me to stick around a little longer if it’s possible."
The conversation with The New York Times turned philosophical, with Pacino being asked whether having a child at the age of 83 was a reaction to confronting his own mortality.
The question left him momentarily speechless before he responded with honesty and humor: "Wow, that was something. I have to really think about that. I don’t know. Maybe? I don’t even understand it."
Al Pacino reflects on fatherhood and Big Bang
Al Pacino went on to explain how fatherhood at this stage of life has shifted his perspective on life and death.
“When I saw the little baby there and the way he was just— you look at it differently now. You look at it like, what is this? This is so amazing!”

His musings took a surprising turn when he shared a moment of existential excitement: “That’s why I was so excited by hearing the Big Bang. Because I thought, I’m not gonna die! [Laughs.] I don’t mean literally. I mean spiritually. There’s something out there that’s bigger than us!"
In true Pacino fashion, the actor grappled with the profound questions of life, death, and legacy.
“You can’t say ‘better,’ because you don’t really know, but something’s out there going on that’s more than we understand,” he said.

Pacino’s reflections come after a year of headlines surrounding his relationship with Noor Alfallah and the birth of their son, Roman.
In 2023, reports surfaced about the financial arrangement between the two, with details about child support for Roman.
Despite speculation, Noor has remained private about their relationship.
Along with Roman, Pacino has three other children: daughter Julie, 34, whom he shares with ex Jan Tarrant, and twins Olivia and Anton, both 23, who he shares with ex Beverly D’Angelo.
