Amanda Kloots reveals her 'DWTS' partner Alan Bersten used to ‘yell' at her: 'He was very mean'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: As the current season of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ is underway, Amanda Kloots is revisiting her time on the celebrity dance reality show as a contestant.
The 42-year-old ‘The Talk’ host participated in ‘DWTS’ with her professional dance partner Alan Bersten in 2021.
While Kloots agreed that Bersten has grown a lot in the past few years, during her time on the ABC show, she got “yelled at” by her dance partner.
Amanda Kloots says Alan Bersten was ‘mean’ to her on 'DWTS'
Appearing on the ‘Boyfriend Material with Harry Jowsey’ podcast on November 19, the television personality opened up about her experience of appearing on season 30 of the celebrity dance show and dancing alongside Bersten.
"He was very mean to me," Kloots admitted but attributed his behavior to Bersten’s Russian upbringing, reported E! News.
She explained, "Growing up Russian, growing up in that dance atmosphere. And he did see a lot of potential in me, and he saw that we could possibly win this thing."
She further added that though she "got yelled at," she kept her hurt feelings bottled up inside her so that she would not derail her rehearsal time.
“I would just keep it bottled up," shared Kloots recalling her time from ‘DWTS’," before adding, "And we would just be dancing, and I would just be raging inside."
Though her journey on ‘DWTS’ did not give her the iconic Mirrorball trophy, Kloots believes their association had a positive impact on Bersten.
The talk show host, who was placed in the fourth position with the pro dancer that year, continued, "I think Alan has grown up a lot in the last couple of years.”
"I'm saying this, and I know that he'll agree with me, I helped him become a nicer person in teaching,” explained Kloots.
Amanda Kloots previously shared her bond with Alan Bersten helped her ‘heal’
Amanda Kloots, a Broadway dancer, was previously married to Broadway star Nick Cordero, before his tragic death in 2020 from COVID-19 complications.
The 42-year-old star, who had her son Elvis, 5, with her late husband, opened up about her friendship with Besten during the final episode of ‘DWTS’ season 30.
Praising her bond with her dance partner, the Canton native said, "I don't know if I have a bond like this with anyone else in my life right now, and I didn't know how much I needed it,” according to Akron Beacon Journal.
Kloots added, "Alan gave me that balance of somebody that would care and give me a hug and cry with me and make me laugh but also push me to become the person that could dance in this finale," before adding, "Alan helped me understand that I can have deeper relationships again in my life."
The television host, who has since then written a memoir titled ‘Live Your Life: My Story of Loving and Losing Nick Cordero’ about her painful experience, further shared, "I lost Nick, and you go so into independent mode of living and you have to get used to not having anyone around, not spending time with anyone, not having that person in your life that you can get a hug from and talk to and have adult conversations with and go for goals with and learn new things with.”
Yet, during her time of crisis, Bersten was a solid presence, who stood by her as a trusted friend. “And you just go back to very much just being yourself, and then you get so used to that, that the fear of letting somebody else in again starts coming up," explained Kloots.
She gushed, "He's [Bersten has] helped me just become OK with the idea of being with a person again, being with somebody again all the time every day, trusting somebody again, crying with somebody again, laughing, all the things that you get worried about in life because you have lost your person in life.”
"We joked that we were in an arranged marriage and that you were paid to like each other and paid to spend time with each other," Kloots added, before concluding, "It was very nice to have that somebody in my life for this time to help me kind of feel that transition out."
