LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s request to drop her father's surname has been postponed. The daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt filed a petition in May, around her 18th birthday, to remove her father's last name.

Now, an update reveals that Shiloh will have to wait a bit longer to make the change, as her hearing has been rescheduled for August. Recently, Shiloh's attorney, Peter Levine, addressed her decision to remove "Pitt" from her last name, citing some "painful events" in a statement.

According to statements obtained by People, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's lawyer, Peter Levine, said that she will have to wait because the court delayed her hearing due to an incomplete background check.

"Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today's hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19," said lawyer, Peter Levine, in a statement.

"Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of a clerical error, Shiloh's hearing has been continued to a new date."

Brad Pitt, who has five other children shared with Angelina, Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Pax, 20, Knox, 15, and Vivienne, 15, is upset by Shiloh's petition. A week after Shiloh's petition was filed in May, a source close to Pitt said that he is "aware and upset" about the change.

"He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name," the source claimed. "The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad."

The source also noted that while Pitt is still content with Ines de Ramon, the distance from his children "pains him."

In July, Shiloh advanced to the next step in California's name-change process by publishing an announcement in the Los Angeles Times that she has filed to change her name to simply "Shiloh Jolie."

According to California law, legal forms must be published in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve the petition. Once published, the request will appear in the legal notice section of the paper.

Following the news about the update on Shiloh Jolie's hearing, many criticized her parents, particularly Angelina Jolie's parenting. Some claimed that Shiloh would regret her decision and mocked that her current name is perfect.

One user wrote, "Good I hope the judge gets a mental evaluation on her first." Another user slammed, "She will regret this. , just keep his last name."

A third stated, "She'll regret this choice." A fourth user commented, "Shiloh Pitt is perfect name." A fifth user added, "That’s so sad."

Another netizen shared, "What a terrible mother Jolie is for allowing this to happen. If she changes her last name & drops Pitt then Brad should not have to pay child support!!!" One person said, "Why do things like this at such a young age, when u grow older family matters the most...ridiculous..mother shld advise her instead? You look like him anyway..so r u gonna run n hide fm that too???"

A last added, "Horrible parenting."
