NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a stunning development, federal prosecutors have unleashed an unprecedented call for disgraced crypto mogul Sam Bankman-Fried to face a staggering prison sentence of 40 to 50 years, as per NBC News.

Once celebrated as a prodigy in the emerging realm of digital finance, the former CEO of the now-defunct digital currency exchange FTX faces the looming threat of a massive downfall that may result in spending a significant portion of his life incarcerated.

Bankman-Fried's rapid ascent and dramatic downfall have captured global attention, and the prosecutors' call for such a harsh sentence has sparked a flurry of reactions across the internet.

Many applaud the move as a long-overdue accountability for the disgraced crypto leader's significant fraud.

The jury's verdict left no room for doubt, holding him accountable for a fraud of monumental proportions that resulted in the financial ruin of thousands of unsuspecting customers.

In a blistering sentencing memorandum submitted on Friday, March 15, federal prosecutors depicted a man whose offenses were deemed so heinous and extensive that they warranted an exceptionally severe sentence.

Referring to the "scope, duration, nature, and sheer volume of Bankman-Fried's offenses," the memorandum asserted that the former crypto prodigy warranted "a sentence of exceptional severity to ensure justice is served."

Prosecutors also underscored Sam Bankman-Fried's privileged upbringing

The prosecutors' recommendation of 40 to 50 years behind bars stands in stark contrast to the meager five to six years requested by Bankman-Fried's defense team in February.

Their 98-page memo depicted him as a troubled individual grappling with cognitive and behavioral challenges, a narrative that appears to have fallen on deaf ears in the face of the overwhelming evidence against him.

Prosecutors also underscored Bankman-Fried's privileged upbringing, being raised by two Stanford University professors, juxtaposing it with his criminal conduct.

Despite having ample legal opportunities for success, they argue, Bankman-Fried succumbed to greed and recklessness, squandering the hard-earned money of numerous individuals.
