LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The cause of death of Ben Affleck's mother, Chris Anne Affleck, has been revealed nearly two months after her passing.

The longtime educator and activist died at the age of 83 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. According to newly released records, Chris Anne died from cardiopulmonary arrest, with pancreatic cancer listed as another cause of her death.

Chris spent her final days surrounded by loved ones and was able to fulfill one last wish before her death. Her passing has renewed attention on the remarkable life she lived and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.

Death certificate details Chris Anne Affleck's passing

Chris Anne died on June 2 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2025. She was "visiting (he) son's residence" in Los Angeles, according to a death certificate obtained by Us Weekly.

The document stated that the residence belonged to Ben Affleck. The death certificate also listed pancreatic adenocarcinoma as another cause of her death following her battle with the disease in her final months. It noted that Chris Anne died at 10:52 am.

Her body was later taken to the Las Vegas-based facility Earth Funeral after the death certificate was filed.

The report also stated that no autopsy was performed. The Affleck family announced her passing through an obituary, which revealed that Chris had been given around six months to live after her diagnosis.

She spent her final days surrounded by loved ones and passed away peacefully while visiting one of her sons.

The obituary also shared that Chris was able to fulfill one of her final wishes before her death. Just two days before she died, she attended her grandson Atticus' high school graduation. She is survived by her sons, Ben and Casey, along with her five grandchildren.

Chris Anne Affleck's lasting legacy remembered

While many knew Chris Anne Affleck as the mother of Ben and Casey Affleck, she built a meaningful life and career of her own. A Harvard graduate, she spent more than three decades teaching in Massachusetts public schools before retiring in 2008.

She was also deeply committed to helping others throughout her life. Chris took part in the 1964 Freedom Summer civil rights campaign, opposed the Vietnam War, and remained active in community and social causes for many years.

Anne also encouraged her sons' creative ambitions from an early age and supported them as they pursued acting careers.
