'Best part of the show': Internet divided as Adam Sandler gives NSFW speech at People's Choice Awards
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Adam Sandler raised eyebrows with a sexually explicit acceptance speech after being honored with the People's Icon Award at the 2024 People's Choice Awards on Sunday night, February 18.
While some found the speech hilarious, others deemed it inappropriate and drawn-out. Sandler's speech quickly went viral, sparking debate online over whether the comedy legend went too far, as per HuffPost.
Adam Sandler delved into vivid and lewd details about sex life during acceptance speech
As Sandler took the podium after glowing remarks from his 'Murder Mystery' co-star Jennifer Aniston, he quipped that there had been a mix-up and that he had prepared an acceptance speech for People magazine’s 'Sexiest Man Alive' award instead of their Icon honor.
Launching into crude remarks, he thanked the "Academy of Hotness and Sexual Attractiveness" for recognizing him as "the man who made our entire country the horniest this year." Sandler then delved into vivid and lewd details about his sex life, saying the award would "witness many feats of romantic gymnastics performed gently on my fine-as-hell wife."
His wife was spotted laughing while appearing embarrassed. Sandler also made self-deprecating jokes about his body and manhood before offering advice to "ugly folk" on looking more attractive.
"Embrace your chubbiness, lean into your goofiness and start hanging out with David Spade and Rob Schneider, so you can look handsomer and three feet taller than you really are," said Sandler as he concluded his speech.
While pockets of the in-person crowd chuckled during Sandler’s eye-popping monologue, much of the humor caught many off-guard based on the nervous laughter and stone-faced reactions of celebrities sitting nearby.
Sandler is of course known for R-rated humor in his comedy films, but bringing similar remarks without warning to a mainstream awards show telecast represented an unexpected departure from the norm.
