WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee's fundraising fell behind ex-POTUS Donald Trump and the Republican Party for the first time since the election year kickstarted.

On Monday, May 20, Biden and the DNC said they raised above $51 million in April, falling short of the $76 million the Republican opponent raised, according to the Associated Press.

The 81-year-old's reelection campaign said it had $192 million cash on hand at the end of April, which, according to them, is the highest amount in Democratic history. However, they had almost a similar amount when the March funding closed in. The stagnant reserve indicated that the Biden campaign was spending the donations as soon as they were raised.

Biden's collection last month had a sharp plummet from March when the team took in more than $90 million.

In addition, in early April, Trump's campaign collected a record $50.5 million at a private fundraiser in Palm Beach, Florida, boosting his total donations. In March, Trump amassed only over $65.6 million, ending the month with $93.1 million cash.

Biden team allots funds to major ad campaigns

Biden's campaign attributed the drop to funding major advertising campaigns in key battleground states and directing the funds for on-ground efforts to mobilize the would-be supporters before the presidential election.

According to the President's campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the April haul "is giving us the resources necessary to invest in opening offices, hiring organizers, and communicating across our battleground states in order to mobilize the coalition of voters who will decide this election".

Biden's team claimed that, at present, it has more than 150 coordinated officers with Democratic officials and more than 500 coordinated staff members in key states.

Surpassing the Democratic campaign's fundraising was a much-needed boost to Trump, who was confined to the Manhattan courtroom for the majority of last month to attend the hush money trial against him. In addition, the former president's massive legal expenses from his civil and criminal cases were viewed as a hindrance to his war chest.

Despite lagging behind the GOP opponent, the incumbent's reelection team considered April the strongest month for recurring contributors who donated above $5.5 million last month alone. Furthermore, 225,000-plus supporters contributed every month, a 1.5 times rise compared to the 2020 cycle.

Internet mocks Trump despite exceeding Biden's fundraising

Social media users chose to ridicule the former president despite raising more funds than his Democratic opponent in April. They suggested the donations were going into Trump's legal expenses instead of campaigning.

A user wrote, "Trump needs the cash for attorney fees." Another remarked, "Except that all of Biden's money goes to campaigning and not to paying lawyers."

"We didn’t need the extra for court costs #Trump is absolutely back to zero “within seconds” & shortly after that bankrupt “again” 100% guaranteed," a third user added.

A fourth response read, "Just tell oil company ceos for two billion he won’t jail them. Problem solved."

Another person jokingly asked, "How much of that $76 million is earmarked to go towards Trump's fines/legal fees?"

Someone else said, "Lol that money isn’t going to nobody’s GOP! Thats legal fee bound!"

Meanwhile, one individual mockingly stated, "A good month for Trump's pile of lawyers."

"But Biden isn’t using his $$$ too fund his defense teams," read another funny remark.
