WASHINGTON, DC: On Wednesday, July 3, President Joe Biden abruptly exited the East Room of the White House after a Medal of Honor ceremony, ignoring questions about his health from the press.

The 81-year-old President, already facing increasing pressure to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race following a lackluster debate performance, quickly left the room, avoiding the media scrum gathered near the exit.

After honoring two Union soldiers from the Civil War, President Biden immediately made his way out of the East Room, evading reporters' questions. Despite the media's presence, he did not acknowledge the barrage of questions directed at him.

The bizarre behavior led to a surge of mockery on social media.

One post on X (formerly Twitter) sarcastically noted, "This is totally normal since it’s after 4PM," referencing claims that Biden struggles to function outside the 10 am to 4 pm window.

Another post bluntly stated, "Biden is done. He’s shot," while another user quipped, "He had to poo."

Someone else asked, "They’re not doing much to alleviate concerns, are they?" while another wrote, "He’s finished. He just doesn’t know it yet."

Joe Biden's determination to stay in 2024 presidential race

Despite the mounting calls for him to step down, President Joe Biden reassured his campaign staff in a call on Wednesday that he remains committed to the 2024 presidential race.

He declared, "Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running - no one's pushing me out. I'm not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win."

This came in the wake of a New York Times report suggesting that Biden had considered ending his reelection bid. An ally quoted in the report expressed concern, saying, "He knows if he has two more events like that, we're in a different place by the end of the weekend," referring to the debate performance and upcoming events.

The White House quickly denied the report, with Biden's deputy press secretary Andrew Bates taking to X to refute it, "That claim is absolutely false. If the New York Times had provided us with more than 7 minutes to comment we would have told them so."

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also addressed the issue during a briefing on Wednesday, confirming that Biden is not preparing to exit the race.

She insisted that while the President still has a cold and has not seen a doctor, his recent poor debate performance could be attributed to "jet lag" from consecutive international trips.

Health concerns and damage control

Jean-Pierre said that President Biden had not undergone a medical examination since February. Biden himself admitted to nearly falling asleep on stage during a fundraiser in McLean, Virginia, on Tuesday night.

He joked about not being "very smart" for "traveling around the world a couple times" before his televised debate with former president Donald Trump.

Biden's busy travel schedule in June included trips to France for a D-Day anniversary celebration and Italy for the G7 summit, followed by a holiday at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and a week of rest at Camp David to prepare for the debate.

The New York Times reported that Biden was so exhausted from his travels that his advisers shortened his debate preparation by two days to accommodate the beach trip. During his time at Camp David, debate prep did not begin before 11 am, and Biden was allotted time each afternoon for a nap.

Biden's campaign activities continue, with the annual Independence Day party at the White House on Thursday and a trip to Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday for his first post-debate interview with ABC News.

He is also scheduled for a campaign stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday. Both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are crucial swing states for the 2024 election.

Despite the recent debate in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 27, where Trump pulled ahead in polling in key battleground states, Biden's team has been engaging in extensive damage control efforts.

They have reached out to party members, staff, lawmakers, donors, allies, and voters to assure them that Biden remains a viable candidate capable of defeating Trump once again.

Amidst these efforts, there is growing speculation within the Democratic Party about alternative candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

However, none of these potential candidates have surpassed Trump in nationwide or battleground state polling, and all trail behind Biden in terms of their chances of winning against the former president, the Daily Mail reported.
