CHAPPAQUA, NEW YORK: Former president Bill Clinton wished his wife Hillary Clinton on their 49th anniversary, but what caught the internet's attention was its detached tone.

Bill and Hillary marked 49 years of their married life on Friday, October 11, and the latter did not miss announcing it on social media.

"Happy Anniversary, Hillary. It's been an amazing 49 years. Here's to many more!" the 42nd president wrote in a rather impersonal and short message. He also shared a photo of them side-hugging on a hill.

Bill and Hillary Clinton's tumultuous married life

The once-democratic power couple entering the fifth decade of their marriage was frequently under scrutiny over the years. As a matter of fact, their political careers often took a second position with more public focus on their personal life in light of Bill Clinton's multiple scandals.

The truth behind their relationship was a hot topic as Hillary stood firm by the side of her husband throughout. Their only child, Chelsea Clinton, was born in 1980.

Hillary was a staunch supporter of Bill when he struggled to win the 1992 presidential election.

During the famous 1992 interview with CBS, the then-first lady of Arkansas showcased her loyalty, nodding in agreement, while Bill dismissed allegations of an affair with Gennifer Flowers, which he later reversed in 1998.

"You know, I'm not sitting here, some little woman standing by my man like Tammy Wynette," Hillary said in the interview, according to Politico. "I'm sitting here because I love him, and I respect him, and I honor what he's been through and what we've been through together. And you know, if that's not enough for people, then heck—don't vote for him," she added, rooting for her husband.

This interview nevertheless played a crucial role in saving his presidential race and, in turn, his entire political career ahead.

Eyebrows were raised once again during their time in DC regarding the then-first lady's indifference to Bill admitting his "inappropriate relationship' with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

In her 2003 memoir 'Living History', Hillary confessed what she really felt after the betrayal.

The former presidential hopeful at the time admitted that upon learning about the betrayal, she could not breathe, but she cried and yelled at her husband, asking why he had lied. Hillary confessed that her anger was intensified by her trust in Bill's repeated denials of the affair and his claim that the scandals were a result of a political witch hunt.

"As a wife, I wanted to wring Bill's neck," she wrote.

Internet trolls Bill Clinton's impersonal anniversary wishes to Hillary Clinton

Netizens ridiculed Bill's not-so-loving wedding anniversary wishes for Hillary, along with mocking their body language in the photo.

"This is a very forced social media post and awkward photo," a user wrote.

"No mention of love anywhere," another remarked.

"Weird body language," added a user.

"He really said that!! Hilarious," an individual quipped.

"This is one of those “ what would you tweet to let people know there’s a gun to my head” tweets, correct?" read one response.

"Most insincere post ever to hit Twitter," another user chimed in.

"That is not the embrace of a loving couple," one user said.

"Oooh the not so loving body language here," someone else added.

"That one FB couple that you know has been awful to each other but trying to act like everything is fine on social media," another user joked.
