Bishop Strickland says Biden is not a good Catholic 'by any real definition'
WASHINGTON, DC: Joseph Strickland, who has previously served as Bishop of Tyler, by Pope Francis in November 2023, said that former President Joe Biden was not a good catholic “by any real definition.”
Following the dismissal of Joseph Strickland, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Joe Vasquez of Austin as apostolic administrator. Appearing on an interview with Newsmax, Bishop said Joe Biden is not a “real” or “good” Catholic.
Bishop says Joe Biden’s faith display is ‘a facade’
The controversial remark on Biden’s catholic identity was made on Friday, May 1, on a program called Finnerty.
As Bishop took on Biden over his faith, he claimed that the former president’s public display of faith is more for appearance than genuine belief.
Answering a question whether Biden, who happened to be the second catholic to hold the post of president, is a good catholic or not, given his thoughts and work surrounding subjects such as abortion and federal prosecutions of pro-life activists, the Bishop said he was not a good catholic.
Strickland said that although Biden attends Mass, the practice “seemed to just be part of the facade,” suggesting he believes Biden’s religious actions are not fully genuine. He added that Biden “needs to really be called to the truth of the Catholic faith.”
Bishop claims bias against Catholics, Christians
He also said that he prays for Biden as a bishop, but stressed that this issue is not limited to one person, stating, “It’s not unique to Joe Biden.”
Strickland further said he is glad the Department of Justice is “calling this out,” referring to what he sees as bias against Catholics and Christians, and said such issues need to be exposed.
The statement comes after a recent bombshell report on Biden’s way of handling pro-life activists. The report was released by the Justice Department’s Weaponisation Working Group on April 14. The report alleged that the DoJ under Biden selectively prosecuted pro-life activists under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.
Joe Biden supported access to abortion
The act was coordinated with groups that support abortion access, and advocated harsher sentences for anti-abortion defendants than for those accused of attacks on pregnancy resource centers.
After the Supreme Court of the United States issued its 2022 Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling, as president, Joe Biden instructed his administration to take steps to preserve abortion access.
This included expanding the availability of the abortion pill Mifepristone and implementing measures aimed at protecting access to abortion services.
